We are currently looking for a bright, analytically skilled and communicative individual. As a Senior Market Analyst - Petrochemicals at ICIS you will join our experienced and dedicated Analytics Centre team in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Senior Market Analyst - Petrochemicals

You will be involved in developing market leading analysis driven by quantitative market models. As Senior Analyst, you will work together with our Data Science team in our Analytics Centre and our Market Analysts worldwide. You will co-develop market models for the global petrochemical market. Our models will drive predictive scenario analysis on market prices and fundamentals to support decision making in the petrochemical industry.

You will be part of an international team, which requires occasional travel globally. As of day one, you will get responsibility in challenging analytics innovation projects.

Main responsibilities

  • R&D of data-driven quantitative market models to predict market variables
  • Analyse the major drivers of the petrochemical market, align view with other market experts & translate insights into models
  • Develop, maintain and improve our market models
  • Stay up to date on the dynamics of the petrochemical market and relevant global markets, pro-actively identify new sources of insight
  • Constantly learn about relevant markets and quantitative forecasting techniques
  • Program required routines and data preparations

Key skills

  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of practical experience in quantitative market analysis for Petrochemicals with fundamental and/or statistical models
  • Deep understanding of the drivers of the Petrochemical market including the considerations behind market participants’ production and pricing decisions, cost curves and the global impact of logistics
  • Analytical mind-set, critical thinking, and excellent teamwork
  • Very good communication and writing skills in English (German an advantage)
  • Ambition to build thought-leadership by using direct customer contact, social media and presentations at external events
  • Programming skills (eg Python, Java, R, Matlab) and SQL
  • University degree in a relevant field
  • Ideally, existing network in the Petrochemical industry
  • Ideally, existing knowledge of agent based market models and/or optimisation
