Job Description:

Top 45 UK Law Firm currently seek a Solicitor to join their speciality insurance team, which provides litigation and advisory services to the insurance industry. The team is experienced in handling claims across a diverse range of professional disciplines, coverage and reinsurance issues. They act on behalf of insurers, professional practices and regulatory bodies, and we have particular experience in dealing with the legal, brokerage, construction and financial services sectors. Members of the team regularly deal with high profile and sensitive issues with far reaching implications and litigate cases in which landmark decisions are reached.

The role:

The London-based Litigation team undertakes a broad range of substantial, challenging and largely contentious work, including claims against a wide variety of professional service providers, insurance and reinsurance disputes and commercial litigation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the partners and associates with their caseloads and supporting business development initiatives
  • Managing one’s own caseload
  • Conducting case handling tasks
  • Assisting with the review and drafting of various documents and correspondence
  • Liaising with clients, insurers, the courts and other parties
  • Completing MI procedures
  • Meeting and exceeding set financial and chargeable targets
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant deadlines, standards and key performance indicators
  • Complying with relevant policies and procedures

The person specification:

  • A keen interest in and genuine understanding of insurance law, coverage disputes, professional indemnity litigation and commercial litigation
  • At least three year’s post-qualification experience with a specialist insurance litigation team or within an equivalent set of Chambers – 3-5 PQE as guidance
  • Understanding of commercial insurance policies, the insurance market, reporting arrangements, reserving philosophies, and the dynamics of the relationships between brokers, underwriters/insurers and lawyers
  • Previous experience with or secondment to an insurance client would be advantageous
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets, to prioritise and manage a caseload and work under pressure to deliver effective solutions which add value
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on one’s own initiative
