We have some exciting opportunities to join our Jane Norman team on a temporary basis as an Assistant Merchandiser Level 2!The role exists to support the merchandiser and work alongside the buying team to ensure a balanced product range that will satisfy the customer, store requirements and achieve the department strategy.

Responsibilities/Objectives for AM level 2:

Merchandise Administration

  • To competently plan and organise workloads taking responsibility to ensure administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Takes responsibility for proactively communicating any issues so that resolutions can be prompt, to achieve the required deadlines or critical dates.
  • Takes responsibility for ensuring that all documentation and systems are maintained and kept accurately up to date with the required information at all times.
Systems management

  • Operating at an advanced level in Microsoft excel.
  • To understand and accurately produce and analyse Merchandiser reports utilising internal systems including RMS, PMM, Business Intelligence (BI) and Makoro to support the delivery of commercial requirements competently.
  • Utilise BI system to aid both trading and planning process, alongside training assistant merchandisers on it’s practical application and the best practice on what to do, how to do it and when to use it.
  • To effectively present merchandising reports to Merchandiser and Head of Merchandising through providing relevant accurate data as required, communicated in a clear and concise manner.
  • Accurately monitor the deliveries of stocks, raise orders, key markdowns and sales forecasts appropriately through continuous development and as required in line with internal systems, processes and commercial requirements on a timely basis.
Intake management & supply chain management.

  • Competently utilises WSSI to implement optimum stock levels that fully support sales, profit and markdown.
  • Able to successfully communicate and influence the Buying team through highlighting any potential impacts and minimising any risk to the Supply Chain.
  • Proactively develops positive working relationships with suppliers to ensure effective management of deliveries and prompt action to resolve any issues
  • Able to confidently take appropriate action with suppliers when identified and negotiates effectively to ensure the best outcome for the business.

  • Accurately analyse and present weekly sales reports to interpret department performance against forecast, budget and last year, whilst providing rationale and explanation of reasons for current and future performance.
  • Competently flex/trade between categories and manage mixes as required.
Commercial Awareness

  • Demonstrates strong commercial awareness through supporting the Buyer to plan and construct product ranges in line with the department and product strategy.
  • Communicates and challenges constructively, the Buyer and the buying team in order to achieve a suitable outcome for the business.
  • Thorough understanding of the Jane Norman customer profile, including their needs and wants, applying this knowledge throughout the range building and planning process.
  • Devise and deliver a department and product strategy that achieves the business KPI’s and incorporates an understanding of all external factors, highlighting any deviations to the plan as they happen.
Range Planning and forecasting

  • Fully understands the dimensions of the sales, space and options and how they impact upon the planning process.
  • Utilises appropriate internal planning tools, methods and process e.g. (seasonal planning, sign off’s, product reviews, intake, option and range planning) to build a balanced and commercial range that meets customer expectations and departmental targets.
  • Is able to demonstrate competency to be flexible in moving sales, stock and markdown/intake appropriately between categories in response to trading conditions as required to deliver departmental targets.
Candidate Criteria

  • Full understanding of the Buying and Merchandising cycle.
  • Previous experience within a Merchandising role
  • Strong Numerical skills
  • Advanced user of Microsoft excel
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent planning and organising skills
  • Effective influencing and negotiating skills
