The Donkey Sanctuary is looking to recruit a Head of Fundraising in order to deliver ambitious plans to expand their international reach and grow fundraised income from £29 million (2016) to more than £50 million by 2022. The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for managing the strategy to achieve this critical target.

The programmatic ambitions will be taking the charity into new territories – both literally and metaphorically. The Head of Fundraising will need to help the organisation evolve but also ensure the core supporter base is brought along on the journey of change.

The Head of Fundraising will need to have an understanding of a broad range of fundraising channels, a willingness to continually test and experiment and a firm grasp of fundraising fundamentals. It will be essential that the Head of Fundraising has an excellent, practical understanding of direct marketing fundraising utilising a range of channels including mail, email, DRTV and online.

The ideal candidate for this role will be energetic, analytical and empathetic. The energy will be needed to inspire and motivate your team to deliver a complex fundraising programme. Analytical skills will be critical, so that large data sets can be reviewed and interpreted correctly. You will also need to have high levels of emotional intelligence and empathy which to build constructive relationships with colleagues, supporters and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

In partnership with the Deputy Director of Marketing Communications develop a fundraising strategy for incorporation into the charity’s strategy and business plan focusing on individual giving (including regular giving, lotteries and raffle), legacies, major donors, trusts & foundations, community and adoptions

Manage and develop existing income streams, which includes direct marketing, online marketing, telephone fundraising, television advertising, memorial schemes, membership campaigns, companies, major donors, charitable trusts and foundations, onsite recruitment and regional/community fundraising, in line with the Charity’s strategic aims and objectives

Manage, motivate, train, develop and support the Fundraising team, setting objectives in line with the charity’s strategic aims and objectives, ensuring the team understand their contribution to the organisation’s strategic objectives, coaching and developing the team to fulfil their potential
