Design at Mendeley You will be an integral part of the design team at Mendeley, which has gone through an exponential growth in the past 3 years. We are a tight-knit team of 11 designers, operating in a flat structure where you will report directly to the Head of Design. We champion the best UCD and product development practices. This includes thorough research using a variety of methods including field observations, weekly usability testing sessions with users, and A/B testing experiments. We hope you can help us scale and improve our practices even further. What you’ll be doing: We are creating a new generation of productivity tools for researchers. This is a top priority for our business and you will be a key member of the team helping us achieve our ambitious goals. You will lead the design and delivery of UI on the new generation of our apps, starting with desktop but with with mobile to follow quickly. Your designs will be a key contribution to the new, cross-platform design system we are developing. Your responsibilities will include: Lead all UI work on the Mendeley reference manager. Work in an agile team with product owners, developers, and BAs to design and deliver productsthat meet the needs of the science research community. Be one of the core members of the team developing the new Mendeley design system. Work with other designers to create effective UI patterns that support a consistent user experience across all our products. Ensure our visual design language is continuously improving, providing beautiful, engaging and delightful user interfaces for our users. Validate all design work through ongoing interviews, usability tests and online tests. Build up your understanding of our users to ensure your work fully supports their needs. Think holistically and work with the design team to improve our processes and help us continue to deliver amazing products. Proactively improve how the Mendeley design team works by exploring new tools and methods. Mentor and coach other designers as needed. Help transform Mendeley into a design-led organisation. What you should bring: At least five-years design experience working on desktop, mobile and web apps. A strong portfolio demonstrating design solutions that meet user needs, product requirements, and business goals A comprehensive understanding of native product design and development Good understanding of front-end technologies, especially HTML and CSS, and how these affect the implementation of UI design Experience of working with design systems and pattern libraries that deliverdesigns consistent with corporate styleguides The capability to rationalise your design solutions for product owners, developers, and other designers A background in UX or user testing would be an advantage. Experience working in an agile environment with product owners, business analysts and developers Experience of working in a large organisation with different products, teams and stakeholders would be beneficial Good working knowledge of Sketch, InVision, Principle or similar prototyping tools.
