Our successful client based in the Buckinghamshire area has a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Secretary to join their team within Commercial and Conveyancing.

The purpose of the role is to provide secretarial support services to the department head and other fee earners as required.

Person specification - Skills, knowledge and experience required:

  • Audio typing - 50+ words per minute
  • Good working knowledge of Word software
  • High standard of English grammar and spelling
  • General administration/office skills
  • Telephone skills
  • Time management skills
  • Good knowledge of the conveyancing process
  • Experience in handling the administrative side of both residential and commercial conveyancing transactions.

Practical skills:

  • Ability to communicate clearly/effectively in English
  • Ability to deal sensitively with clients
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience of using e-mail/the internet
  • Experience of using office equipment, e.g. photocopiers, scanners, fax machines
  • Filing experience
  • Diary management
  • Knowledge of forms/layouts used in legal documentation
  • Experience of working under pressure
  • Administration skills
  • Typing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise own workload
  • Ability to work as part of a team

General responsibilitie

  • Answering the telephone/taking messages
  • Dealing with clients and other people calling at the office
  • Progressing cases as requested by the fee earner
  • Making appointments
  • Attending clients
  • Liaising with third parties, particularly estate agents
  • Producing completion statements and drawing up bills
  • General administrative tasks in relation to individual file management:
  • Word processing
  • Sending and receiving e-mails
  • Filing
  • Photocopying
  • Linking incoming post to appropriate case files
  • Ensuring outgoing post/DX is taken to reception for dispatch
  • Sending and receiving faxes
  • Liaising with court staff and other third parties as required
  • Other tasks as required
