Saltersgate is Midlothian's school for pupils with additional support needs. We are situated on the Dalkeith schools campus and provide education for both primary and secondary aged pupils. The jobholder will be required to work across both primary and secondary departments.

Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education or equivalent competency is essential, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.

The Jobholder should be familiar with child development and be able to respond to the additional support needs of individual pupils. It is desirable that Jobholders have previous experience of working in this field supporting pupils with additional support needs, administering medication and providing personal and intimate care.

It is desirable that the Jobholder also has experience in manual handling, food hygiene, body spills and emergency first aid. However, once in post, the Jobholder will be given the opportunity and be required to undertake additional and on-going training.

Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday: 8.25 - 3.20 / Friday: 8.20 - 12.15

Weeks per year: 39

Please note that it is Midlothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 29.50 hours over 39 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £14,419.22 per annum.
