Salary: Circa GBP 40,000 per annum including London weighting

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Auditor to provide assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of controls by undertaking a range of operational, financial and investigative reviews.

About the role
The Senior Auditor will have to undertake financial and operational internal audits across the organisation to provide assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls, risk and governance. This includes understanding policies, processes and systems underpinning areas under review, interviewing key staff up to director level, identifying risks, testing and evaluating existing controls, and reporting to local and senior management, both verbally and in writing.

About the team
The Internal Audit function consists of an Internal Audit Manager and Senior Auditor who report directly to the Head of Internal Audit. An Internal Auditor also reports directly to the Internal Audit Manager and indirectly to the Head of Internal Audit. The Senior Auditor is responsible for working alone or as part of the team, undertaking the planning, fieldwork, and reporting of assignments, both verbally and in writing up to director level. Reviews will cover all activities of the British Red Cross, including fundraising, UK operations and international programmes, as well as key financial and operational systems. The post will involves travel for up to 25% of the time, both in the UK and overseas.

The Finance, Planning and Resources Directorate ensures the organisation's effective management of its resources to meet the organisational strategy to focus on making a difference to people in crisis and ensure we are truly aligned to our mission, values and fundamental principles. Working across the organisation, the Directorate ensures that our money, and non-financial resources, for example property, project management resources, are effectively managed to ensure our funds are best used on front line service provision, as well as providing oversight of the management of risk and compliance. The Directorate works through strong organisational links with a focus on engagement through transparency and openness.

About the person
To be considered for the position of Senior Auditor candidates must hold a CCAB/CIA/IIA qualification and have:

  • Worked at senior level with a record of delivering audits to tight deadlines and writing reports for management including making recommendations for improving controls
  • Experience in undertaking both financial and operational audits in a large and complex organisation
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills
  • Competent in using word and excel
  • Knowledge of risk management practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills
