MacTaggart Scott is a privately owned Scottish engineering company established in 1898 and based in Loanhead, near the City of Edinburgh. With over 100 years in business and satisfied customers in 27 countries, the quality and reliability of our products make them preferred by many navies. This is a great opportunity to be part of the global Naval Defence and Marine market.

We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer to join our existing team.

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will provide the technical lead for projects where your key objectives will include management and execution of cost effective design solutions to the agreed plans within the constraints of the budget; the creation of clearly defined work packages for engineers within the design team; the effective management of risk and engineering change through the design process; effective communication and the maintenance of positive working relationships across the business.

On a day-to-day basis your remit will include taking responsibility for the engineering content of a variety of marine based projects, ensuring project awareness from the initial requirement specification through to final customer acceptance; providing innovative design solutions within timescale and budget, including supporting calculations and analysis; provision of technical input to bids and enquiries; identifying areas of risk in the delivery to the project schedule or cost, and plan mitigation work.

In order to be considered for this role it is essential that you have a BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) or relevant apprenticeship with HNC. A MEng in Mechanical Engineering and Chartered status would be highly desirable.

In addition to the above, you will have experience with solid modelling design tools including structural analysis using finite element modelling and will have a natural flair for problem solving and innovation along with a proven track record of creating and checking high quality production drawings and of leading technical projects.

Although not essential, it would be advantageous if you can bring with you composite analysis experience; experience of subsea engineering; experience using Creo, Creo Simulate and ANSYS; and an awareness of military environmental requirements such as equipment standards for shock, noise and vibration and hazardous areas.

There will be a requirement for travel within the UK and abroad.

Due to the nature of the work associated with this post, the successful candidate will be subject to background checking for MOD security clearance.
