Are you a LINUX pro wanting to get into AWS?
We are seeking a talented professional with proven Linux skills and a solid knowledge of networking who is interested in taking their skills into the cloud as part of our team that build, manage and support Amazon Web Services-based solutions.
Up to this point in your career, you may not have had extensive exposure to hyperscale cloud environments, but as part of our small but highly focused team you will build on your Linux expertise to rapidly gain skills and contribute to our capabilities.
Our Public Cloud Services team form an exciting and growing part of our business. You will play a key role in helping support customers’ AWS infrastructure, leveraging the powerful set of AWS technologies to optimise the architecture of their web sites and applications for high availability, maintainability, ease of deployment and patching. You’ll also be involved in the ongoing development and evolution both of individual customer environments and the overall service, including implementing best practice tools for automation and monitoring.
As a newer member of the team your emphasis will be on business-as-usual support activities but we guarantee you will have plenty of scope to learn from more senior practitioners on the team, and over time you will have opportunity to get involved in all elements of the service lifecycle.
As a Cloud Service Provider we support multiple customers requiring us to multi-task effectively and adapt rapidly to changing needs. We provide a 24x7x365 service coverage thus on-call and some variance in working hours is a must for all team members. On-call is on a rota basis with an on-call supplement and overtime for on-call work.
You’ll have demonstrable skills in Linux in an operational/sysadmin capacity. Although not required an understanding of the AWS environment would be useful. You have a decent understanding of networking fundamentals and common services like DNS. You are driven to deliver the best outcome for clients every time no matter how large or small their requirement. You have a desire and an ability to seek out methods and resources that enhance the team’s capabilities.
You know that delivering a great customer experience is about more than getting the technical magic just right - and that listening to the customer, communicating regularly and managing expectations, all go towards what sets our service apart from our contemporaries.
The ideal candidate will have:
o Linux configuration, management and troubleshooting
o Able to analyse alerts, logs and reports to identify the source and cause of a problem. Able to conclude whether a problem likely lies in the infrastructure or the application
o Understanding of horizontally scalable web application architecture and how to remediate failed instances
o Experience of working with hypervisors e.g. vSphere, KVM, XEN, Amazon EC2
o A keen eye for analytical work and attention to detail
o Database administration (listing, killing long-running queries etc)
o Source Code Versioning (Git) including developing documentation in Markdown and setting up access permissions
o Understanding of continuous development and continuous integration, including deployment from a Configuration Management System
o Networking including security groups and VPC
o Outstanding customer service skills and communication skills
o Experience of working in an ISO27001 and ITIL managed environment
o Able to work on call on a rota basis
