Principal Inspection Technician

The largest inward investor in the UK defence sector and one of the biggest suppliers of defence equipment to the UK MoD are seeking a Principal Inspection Technician to be the technical lead for all Optronics inspection requirements.

To define and perform a range of inspection tasks including, goods in, 1st off, in process and final inspections, calibration, as well as input to monthly yield reviews, to support the manufacture and delivery of infrared detectors.

To be responsible for the generation of inspection processes, transfer to Line inspect though training of manufacturing staff and support this activity through regular audits.

Proactively contribute inputs to process improvement to ensure continuous improvement within the inspection function.

Support cross-functional teams to improve quality of product through analysis of data, practical knowledge and experience.

The Southampton site hosts some of the company’s communications, optronics and air traffic management products, along with several key airborne and marine technologies.

Location: Southampton

Salary: £33,000 - £37,000

Key Responsibility Areas for the Principal Inspection Technician

  • Generate inspection processes and define SAP inspection plans, for all inspection requirements, ensuring quality standards are maintained, with a view to transfer to Line or remove inspection requirement, where appropriate.
  • To support new product introduction and all development build inspection requirements.
  • Influence cross-functional teams to improve quality of product through analysis of data, practical knowledge and experience.
  • To train manufacturing assistants in inspection processes being transferred to Line Inspection and support this activity with regular Audits.
  • Proactively contribute inputs to process improvement to ensure continuous improvement within the inspection function.
  • To operate equipment, use jigs, tools and hand tools to inspect all aspects of infrared detectors.
  • To complete tasks, either written or verbal, with minimal supervision.
