About the opportunity Trustees are the people who volunteer their time (typically one day a month), knowledge and expertise. They have a responsibility to strategically lead the charity and determine how it is run. Trustees have overall control of the organisation and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do. Bethphage Trustees are also Directors of the company. As a Bethphage Trustee, you will be a critical friend of the Executive Management Team, challenging them to continuously improve everything we do. Ultimately, we are looking for professional people who have strong technical knowledge and who care about making a difference to the lives of individuals with physical and learning disabilities. You will also be able to make a regular commitment to the Charity, to enable us to realise our vision of inclusive communities where all people have the opportunity to live the life they choose. About Bethphage Bethphage provides high quality, person centred care and support services to adults with learning disabilities and similar needs in Shropshire and the West Midlands. Our vision is of inclusive communities where all people can live the life they choose and our mission is to be an excellent provider of support to people with disabilities. We do this through enabling people to achieve their potential and maximise their independence. We provide supported living services, small registered care homes and daytime opportunities including a farm, craft based day centre and a community centre which includes the local public library. Each week we provide 7500 hours of care and support, and every night we provide overnight support by "sleeping in" in 27 places. We employ 300 staff and currently have seven locations registered with the Care Quality Commission, all of which have been judged "good" in all 5 domains and overall at inspection during the last two years. Bethphage is a UK charity and company limited by guarantee with two members, our American founders (now called Mosaic) and the British Council of Lutheran Churches. Whilst we have Lutheran roots, we are not a religious organisation. We have an annual turnover of £6 million. What are they looking for? You will be a leading light within your field who is able to act as a critical friend to the Executive Management Team and guide the on-going development and stewardship of the charity by allocating an average of no more than one day a month to the charity. The Board of Trustees are eager to supplement their skills-set with volunteers from the finance and legal sectors who are then able to take strategic leadership for their discipline at Board. Practical Considerations We are looking for people who can show commitment to the organisation with willingness to devote the necessary time and effort. You will need to have the ability to think creatively with good independent judgment and have a strong strategic vision. You will need to work effectively as a member of a small team with a willingness to speak you mind with a good sense of humor. You need to also understand and have acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
