Lead Systems Engineer - Farnborough - £60,000-£65,000
This is an urgent requirement for a seasoned systems engineer to join a global defence technology organisation.

The Role
The Systems Engineer will have a full understanding of design, development, and integration of large and complex Systems. You will primarily be responsible to the Chief Engineer for developing the System, including responsibility for subsystem delivery in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) structure.

Your duties will include:
  • Defining and delivering a solution that meets the needs of the user within the bounds of requirements whilst acknowledging the schedule and cost constraints
  • Assessment of existing, modified or new Systems, and embodiment of COTS or FOSS items
  • Technical input to programme management and cost estimation teams
  • Technical risk assessment and reduction, including assessment of TPMs and TRLs
  • A good level of Commercial awareness

Key Skills
You will have a proven background working on multimillion, enterprise level projects. As well as being capable of acting as the deputy chief engineer, combining strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a strong technical background.

Although the lead systems engineer won’t have direct line manager responsibilities, they must be able to lead team sizes of about 20+ employees and lead by example. The role will predominately be hands off but you must be able to ‘roll your sleeves up’ and lead by example when required. While a deep understanding of the technical side of the project is important, it is essential that you are comfortable communicating with senior clients.

  • Systems Engineering and understanding of the principles behind each of the main processes
  • Technical Management of subcontractors Technical Team Management including the planning of work packages, allocation to team members and reporting
  • Technical Team Leadership including providing technical direction to team members
  • Ability to lead on systems engineering tasks for their allocated subsystem – requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, systems integration and testing and trade studies is expected
  • Ability to clearly articulate and communicate design and technical concepts in written and verbal forms
  • Basic understanding of MS Active Directory, MS Exchange, MS Skype for Business ,DNS, DHCP, databases, web services and.

Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of MOD UK and NATO organisation, processes and procedures for support planning and implementation for fixed and deployed Communications and Information Systems
  • Design and development using one or more of MS Active Directory, MS Exchange, MS Skype for Business ,DNS, DHCP, databases, web services and PKI
