Market Underwriter – Environmental Impairment Liability
Grade: G3
Location: London

The opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Market Underwriter to join our team based in London. The successful candidate will develop and underwrite, a profitable and compliant, UK Regional & Global EIL account, on both a Primary and Excess of Loss basis. The EIL Underwriter will contribute to the achievement of Zurich‘s Corporate Strategy and Business Plan.

Main Accountabilities:
• Personally underwrite new and existing accounts with underwriting authority and that contribute to the targets for production profitability rate increases service standards underwriting and wording processes.
• Technical review of submissions and engineering surveys
• Contribute to the profitable growth of the EIL book (within the overall Casualty account), through high quality underwriting and superior customer service standards.
• Develop Customer and Broker relationships and project the image of Zurich insurance, maintaining an awareness the available market capacity, expertise and product innovation within Zurich and
• Ensure that the business written falls within our Reinsurance Treaty or discuss, where necessary, appropriate facultative reinsurance placements pre bind with the Casualty Manager or LOB Head.
• Implement programme business to ensure that the administration is in accordance with the Guidelines laid down by Zurich‘s technical departments
• Contribute along with the Casualty Management Team to the development of strategy and adhere to corporate guidelines (eg Globuz)

Your skills and experience:

• A good technical knowledge of environmental risk and liability
• A good technical knowledge of EIL and / or Casualty insurance, together with an awareness of different insurance coverage and practices which apply throughout overseas insurance markets.
• An understanding of how to engage with the full range of risk engineering service offerings applicable to the UW process.
• Degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry or Geology or similar science based degree
• ACII or progress towards
• Experience of Environmental Sector (Consultancy, Regulator, Industry, Law) preferred
• Can do attitude and willingness to actively seek opportunities to develop knowledge and to promote and grow the business.
• Ability to understand and negotiate complex technical environmental risks and policy wordings
