An exciting opportunity has come up for a talented, experienced pharmacist to become part of the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Manchester.

Emergency Departments (ED) departments in the North West have not traditionally benefitted from a full clinical pharmacy service for a variety of reasons. By providing clinical pharmacists with skills in diagnosis and emergency care, we aim to provide emergency departments with a prescribing workforce capable of implementing the medicines optimisation agenda. The Advanced Clinical Skills (ACS) postgraduate short course was set up in 2015 and aims to teach these clinical assessment skills along with increased knowledge of prescribing in emergency medicine.

This post will continue to develop, lead and deliver this clinical training programme for pharmacists to work in emergency departments. You will be supported by other postgraduate directors and academics. You will support the students who have taken up this post by establishing a peer network to share learning and good practice. In addition you will liaise with relevant stakeholders in the North West, nationally and in the NHS.

You will also support other postgraduate programmes delivered by Division of Pharmacy and Optometry.

You should be a great communicator, have experience in teaching and learning, have a good understanding of the future of pharmacy and be aware of current policy within the NHS. We will provide essential training to help you settle in as part of the team.

We will also support you to develop a research programme in your area of clinical expertise.

The School is strongly committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for gender equality in higher education. The School holds a Silver Award which recognises their good practice in relation to gender; including flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and support to allow staff achieve a good work-life balance. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post.
