Job Description

Leonardo is seeking a project engineer to support development projects in high performance infrared detectors. The role involves supporting the full product life cycle, from requirements capture and analysis, to concept development, through to prototype verification and transfer to production activities.

Key Responsibility Areas

Working as an integral part of the engineering product development team, you will be responsible for conducting experimental trials, analysis and modelling and other tasks in support of the development of new infrared detector products.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • A degree in Physics (preferable) or relevant Engineering discipline (Electronics, Systems etc) is required for this role and an MSc or PhD is advantageous.
  • Experience or an interest in electro-optics or semiconductor devices is desirable.
  • Strong communication, problem solving and technical writing skills are essential for this role. A high degree of numeracy is also required, together with a self-motivated approach to conducting tasks.
  • The role would suit a candidate with proven practical laboratory skills and an interest in conducting trials to support the development and characterisation of new infrared detector products.

Intrinsic Factors

Mainly office based, but with some potential travel in the UK and occasional overseas travel to meet customers and suppliers. Moderately heavy display screen use. Aspects of practical laboratory working for conducting trials and evaluating performance of newly developed products as well as fault finding investigations. Normal working is 37hrs/ 5 days per week but with project demands occasionally demanding longer hours and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
