Large International Consultancy in Darlington requires an Associate Highway Engineer to lead an established design team.

With an established track record of successfully delivering both major and minor highway engineering schemes, for national bodies including, Highways Agency, LRT, large county council frameworks, and numerous rail and light rail schemes. The Teesside based team provides the full lifecycle services from concept, feasibility and preliminary design through detailed design and construction supervision, as well network asset management and maintenance consultancy services
They are looking to develop and grow this team further, through the appointment of a key, enthusiastic and driven, individual, with good leadership qualities and a strong technical background, who will be responsible for the delivery of highway projects to programme and budget, using innovation to improve performance, leading and coordinating input from multi-disciplinary teams, developing schemes through to construction and beyond.

The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with extensive working knowledge and understanding of the issues applicable to the successful delivery of highway and associated infrastructure schemes. Working for national government and local authorities as well as contractors on design and build schemes, he /she will be able to demonstrate proven design and project management experience delivering to high quality standards, on time and budget, whilst maintaining a strong customer focus.

Minimum Requirements * 12 years of relevant experience.
* Excellent communication skills
* Competence in the use of DMRB, MCDHW, RSA & CDM.
* Knowledge and understanding of contracts and legislation applicable to highway design and construction
* Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, particularly with clients and stakeholders
* Good IT knowledge including the use of AutoCAD, MS Office and Project.
* A full driving licence is required.
Qualifications * Degree Qualified, a Chartered Engineer and member of an Appropriate Professional Intuition. (Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered institute of Highway and Transportation).
General / Technical * Leading by example will provide technical leadership to his/her team.
* Will serve as a technical specialist for the office in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles or processes
* Will contribute to the development and improvement of technical standards both internally and externally driving continuous improvement
Project Management
* Able to take full technical responsibility for interpreting, organising, executing and coordinating assignments and managing projects large complex projects
* Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering for a larger scope project.
* Regularly develops and evaluates project plans
* Reviews contract bidding and administration.
* Monitors performance of the team.
* Plans and develops segments of engineering projects with unique or controversial problems that have an important effect on major organisation programs, which involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
* Ability to Project Manage design work carried out in other offices and liaise as required.
Client Management * Identifies potential internal and external clients and work.
* Secures and manages clients and contracts.
* Takes an active role in work wining and business development assisting Business Line Managers in the development of new business, marketing to potential and existing clients.
* Leads technical proposals
* Provides advice and consultation to clients on highway engineering matters, including compliance with government laws and regulations.
* Generates and maintains good client relationships
* Resolves client and project issues
Development & Leadership of Others * Mentors and manages staff on projects
* Trains and evaluates less experienced staff.
