Pets at Home Finance Graduate Scheme

This is a truly unique opportunity for highly ambitious and high calibre graduates to join a listed retail company in the dynamic and fast-paced finance team, based at our Support Office in Handforth, Cheshire. About the role:
The three year rotational role will give you an opportunity to gain experience across a variety of areas and will come with full study support in completing a professional accounting qualification (CIMA). You will have access to all the resource required, through on the job experience and application of the theory of your studies, to become a successful and all-round finance professional.

The rotational role will be shaped based on both the candidate's interests and business requirements, to cover experience within 3 of the following teams:

1. Management Accounts
Working within the MA function, you'll play a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely month end reporting of business performance. You'll have the opportunity to make a real impact on cost management across our stores, support office and distribution centres. You will business partner specific department heads (i.e. marketing or property) to provide financial support to help decision making. Key tasks will include:
* Getting involved in the end-to-end month-end process, you will be responsible for a number of areas, which will involve posting journals and calculating accruals & prepayments.
* Variance analysis of actual costs vs. budget including reviews with head of department.
* Completion of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring strong controls are in place.
* Preparation of operating cost budgets and rolling reforecast.
* Involvement in the annual external audit process

2. Commercial Finance
CF is at the heart of our day to day trading; which plays a vital role in enabling the business to make the correct commercial decisions, with the customer always at the forefront of our decision making. You'll support the team in providing and presenting a variety of analysis and insight tailored towards all levels of the organisation, to assist in making immediate or future change to help enhance the overall trading performance of Pets at Home. You'll be involved with analysing, influencing and challenging the trading functions (buying, merchandise planning, supply planning) on aspects of category performance. Key tasks will include:
* Analysing weekly trading sales and margin and supply chain reports
* Working closely with the trading team to produce a robust sales and margin plan
* Analysing the performance of current and previous ranges, developing insights and challenging buyers on their plans for new ranges
* Monitoring and analysing trials and projects, and making recommendation on their suitability

3. Financial Planning and Analysis
The FP&A team take ownership of the Group budgeting and forecasting, to deliver business insights and support future decision making. Working in this commercially focused and forward-thinking team, your tasks will include:
* Monthly rolling reforecast and financial system support
* Production of the Annual Business Plan
* Performance reporting
* Business partnering with both finance and non-finance colleagues to analyse cost variances and provide support

4. Transactional Finance
Transactional teams include purchase ledger, sales ledger, and cash & banking. Experience of working in the team will help develop an understanding of the start-to end processes within finance and will help in gaining an all-round view of the retail finance function. Tasks included in this role include:
* Review the cash reconciliations and FX money exchanges.
* Review stock and GNFR items to ensure that risk is mitigated where possible.
* Responsible for billing and cash collections to ensure that the annual targets are hit.
* Management and supervision

Skills required;
* Achieved at least a 2:1 degree; no particular discipline
* Excellent educational achievement including 3 A levels at B and above and strong GCSE's in Maths and English
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with key stakeholders
* Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
* Ambition, motivation and drive to thrive in fast-paced and high pressured environment
* Outstanding organisational skills to ensure you meet a range of challenging deadlines
* Enthusiasm to study to towards a professional finance qualification and to become a qualified accountant working within a FTSE 250 company.
