CDM are working in partnership with a global engineering business in the recruitment of a Development Engineer (Electrical) for a newly created role in the R&D function within the business.

Reporting to the VP of R&D the Development Engineer is responsible for the development of specialist products and components and provides focused niche technical guidance in Polymers, Metallurgy, Electrical Engineering and product analysis. The department contributes to the direction, co-ordination and implementation of the development of the businesses products.

Primary Function:

·New areas of development to help strengthen the company’s position in the market place, reduce costs, improve quality and increase its product and capabilities portfolio.

·Product design and development, technical support on design and development issues at the request of other departments and entities.This includes all associated activities.

·Advise the Manufacturing Unit on the acceptability and disposition of product with outstanding non-conformances.

Role & Responsibilities:

Manage individual R&D projects in line with Budget and Time constraints.Advise the Manufacturing Unit on the disposal of products associated with non-conformances, damage etc.Product design, calculations and analysis utilising relevant software.Generate and develop, design rules, reports, analyses, calculations, instructions, procedures, specifications, design plans and relevant documentation associated with the product. Liaising directly with internal clients, external clients (via projects department), manufacturers and suppliers, to agree final designs and with respect to any other engineering issues within the jobholder’s area of responsibility.Review designs with respect to materials of construction to ensure the maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness of all constructions.Participate in consolidation and development activities associated with the product.Ensure compliance with company, departmental and quality and management procedures and systems.Improve the design process through development of theories and models relating to product and component properties.Analyse and comment on customer requirements, specifications and contract documentation.Required Experience & Qualifications:

·Degree or equivalent in an Electrical Engineering discipline.

·Ideally 2 – 3 years experience in the electrical industry, but recent graduates will be considered.

It may be necessary at times to work unsociable hours to meet the needs of the business. Travelling within the UK and abroad may be required at times.
