Purpose of Role

Responsible for working as part of a team, generating income for the firm through the processing of our clients claims by way of litigation.

The claims will comprise both debt recovery instructions and consumer claims to recover monies owed to clients of the firm principally through debtor/defendant liaison and thereafter through the correct application and issuance of court proceedings. Accurate completion of court paperwork, investigation into a debtor’s circumstances and ability to pay, negotiating and liaising with defendants, legal representatives and the court service to obtain payment of the debt. The role will also comprise liaising with the Insolvency Service if necessary and utilising enforcement methods to obtain prompt payment of the debt.

Scope of Job

  • Manage the expedient collection of volume debts owed from debtors to our clients, principally through efficient and effective debtor liaison with minimal cost;
  • Manage the expedient processing and settlement of volume consumer claims of our clients against various defendants, principally through efficient and effective defendant liaison with minimal cost;
  • Provide legal services to clients whilst maintaining standards associated with Law Society and SRA rules;
  • Compliance with client care and complaints procedures;
  • Tracing debtors through Tracing Agencies and digital resources;
  • Preparing and issuing county court proceedings through the MoneyClaim service;
  • Accurate preparation of all relevant court paperwork for contested hearings including court bundles and witness statements;
  • Applying for judgment and evaluating options for obtaining settlement;
  • Arranging mediation and attending where necessary;
  • Assessing the commercial viability for enforcement and when instructed, pursuing the appropriate enforcement method;
  • Liaising with the Insolvency Service;
  • Communicating with all relevant parties in proceedings by telephone and in writing;
  • Reporting to line Recoveries manager on a regular basis.


  • 3 years’ experience of recovering debts (high volume) including the issue of county court proceedings and progressing the claim to settlement, via trial where required;
  • Experience of enforcing judgments - instructing bailiffs, attachments of earnings, charging orders and monitoring recoveries;
  • Experience of pursuing consumer claims, (particularly pursuant to the Consumer Credit Act) preferable but not essential;Law degree with LPC preferable but not essential.
