The role:

You will be working alongside the Lead UX Designer to ensure all our clients software delivers a high quality user experience to our customers. The role will put you in an influential position in the company where you will be given control over the design of several desktop, web and mobile applications and contribute regularly to new concepts.

You will work alongside developers, testers and engineers to design and build software using the very latest in Agile and Lean UX methods. You will be responsible for helping teams to research and understand user needs, creating conceptual software designs and then working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop, test and refine those designs into real products. This is a great opportunity to learn about the entire software development cycle and to be responsible for the design from start to finish.

Your work will be varied and will utilise your entire skillset as a design professional. You will be expected to have experience in user research - conducting professional interviews and observing users work to understand their motivations, goals and needs. Your research will mean you gradually build a thorough understanding of our customer's work-flows and can be called upon to advise software product managers, helping them to scope projects and spot opportunities for new or better products. We work in a transparent and collaborative manner, and you will contribute to - and in time lead - workshop sessions where you brainstorm with developers and software users.

You should be able to translate research findings and workshop ideas into realistic software designs, exploring concepts quickly as sketches before moving on to more detailed mock-ups and interactive prototypes to communicate your vision. You should be confident using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and at least one good interactive prototyping tool such as Axure, Invision, Sketch, Adobe XD, Pixate etc. Working with the product manager and developers, you will support your team throughout the build of the real product, helping them with detailed UI design decisions and in many cases refining your designs in response to new findings, technical or budgetary constraints. Graphic design skills are a plus, as you may be asked to provide UI and icon designs for the development team.

At regular intervals during development, you will use your research skills again to conduct in-depth usability tests and focus group reviews with customers, appraising usability and how well software answers user needs, as well as identifying areas for improvement. You will be expected to show how testing has informed your design choices and helped the team to track their progress towards software release.
