Headquartered in Manchester and with process, R+D and test support in Sedgefield North East England, ESS’ client delivers world class 'organic' semiconductor materials for the manufacture of flexible displays and electronics for use in applications such as smartwatches, smartphones and tablets. The company provides customised solutions involving molecule synthesis, formulation, pre-production prototyping and technology transfer for market-driven applications.

Their R+D, Product and Process Applications teams are based in the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) in Sedgefield, and they now need to recruit a number of Process Development / Integration Engineers.
Reporting into the Process Engineering Manager, the Process Development Engineer is an integral part of the process engineering team. You will support demonstration and validation of the performance of current and future materials and processes, helping develop these from R+D into scale up, then pilot production and eventual technology transfer into high volume offshore manufacturing. Other core responsibilities will include:
  • Definition, development and delivery of reproducible fabrication processes for O-TFT test device and demonstrator vehicles using semiconductor and display fabrication tools in a cleanroom environment, suitable for the transfer to large scale manufacturing facilities.
  • Working with the team to develop and maintain appropriate process control methodologies, understanding variability within the processes and reducing the variability to provide stable fabrication techniques.
  • Developing safety, operational and product flow operating procedures for the technicians which enables consistent manufacturing techniques to be applied.
  • Working with CPI engineers to improve existing and develop new processes in a collaborative but IP sensitive environment.
  • Working with the materials and test engineering teams to develop and improve device fabrication process improvements utilising parametric and reliability test data.
  • Reporting progress on device fabrication processes within a project environment to external and internal customers.
  • Contributing to technology transfer documentation and data packages to support materials sales and customer focussed process development.

Educated to degree calibre in an engineering or scientific discipline (Chemistry preferred), you are a proven Applications, Product or Process Engineer. This will suit Process Development and Process Integration engineers from a silicon, optoelectronic, III-V, or OLED and materials production environment. The relevant candidate must be able to demonstrate previous experience of new process development, integration and support of technology and process transfers between sites.

This is a superb opportunity to join a highly ambitious and forward thinking SME technology business totally changing how we will see things in the future. You can expect and excellent base salary (£35-50,000 dependent on experience), plus a comprehensive benefits package. However, you are probably more excited about being at the forefront of a technology revolution, and driving tomorrow’s technology today.
