THE ROLE: Accountant (Cost Accounting)-Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Our client is looking for a Group Cost Accountant to work within the Group Management Accounts team, providing costing expertise to the Group Business Units within Cambridge Assessment by providing financial information, analysis and advice of full end to end costs.

The post requires a pro-active approach to support and challenge the business in delivering its key strategies. The ability to influence decisions at a senior level is essential, as is cost accounting experience, providing insight into financial performance to a range of stakeholders.

Key experience for the role: Accountant (Cost Accounting)-Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Provide commercial analysis of all direct costs across all business units and the visibility of costs incurred as an end to end process. Manage and manipulate large data sets to identify cost activity drivers and granular analysis of performance by product, product group and business dimensions including the provision of high quality financial information on a timely and accurate basis for the Group and all Divisions and business units

Lead on the formulation of the Group’s and business unit’s cost methodologies to identify variable, semi-fixed and fixed costs and the most appropriate drivers for allocation of costs to reflect costs incurred

To provide meaningful and insightful analysis of data and summarise and communicate findings to management accounts teams and budget holders, particularly at director level, to enable them to make commercial decisions. This includes financial input into cost benefit analysis and product profitability analyses

Act as an authoritative commercial and challenging sounding board to help formulate cost methodologies and support contract tenders and pricing. Advise and support directors and managers on financial issues

The Candidate: Accountant (Cost Accounting)-Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

The ideal candidate will hold a professional accounting qualification- Either part or fully qualified (CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) and have a high level of numerical reasoning and cost accounting experience. You will demonstrate strong business partnering skills and be able to apply relevant accounting standards appropriately. In addition you will display an aptitude for problem solving and decision making, and have the ability to manipulate financial data and produce accessible outputs

Key Criteria’s: Accountant (Cost Accounting)-Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

• Experience in an accounting role of managing costs, product cost analysis and pricing within a large organisation. The jobholder will have gained a detailed understanding of how the finance operation works by way of experience of working within a financial environment

• Ideally membership of a professional Accountancy body; which provides the appropriate technical knowledge in order to carry out the duties listed above, including Company law and accounting standards
  • Understanding of cost management, data analysis and allocation of costs
  • Display an aptitude for problem-solving and decision making, while understanding when to refer queries to a higher level
  • An understanding of how the information needs of different levels of managers impact on the structures needed within an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ideally SAP)
  • Project work, successfully producing detailed and accurate work to deadlines with demonstrable delivery.
