The Data Centre Support Engineer Opportunity:

Reporting to the Site Support Supervisor the Data Centre Support Engineer will be responsible for 1st level data centre support to external and internal customers, assisting them with server, application, desktop, networking and hardware problems and standard change requests.

Data Centre IT Support Engineer Key Responsibilities Include:

+ Provide expert cabling support including crimping, patching, labelling, running and terminating.
+ Support Trainee DC Engineers when required.
+ Troubleshoot hardware faults and arrange replacements.
+ Install and decommission redundant equipment and cabling.
+ Provide expert cabling and hardware support.
+ Responsible for proactive updating of customer and resolution of service.
+ Co-operate and work closely with all members of the support team to ensure efficient, productive and high quality technical support and customer service to customers within the Pulsant live Data Centre.
+ Liaise with onsite support engineers and within other company sites.
+ Manage all incoming calls, emails and faxes to the data centre support function.
+ Liaise with third party suppliers to report and escalate customer problems.
+ Respond to customers within agreed SLA.
+ Delivery of remote hands for customers within SLA.
+ Follow escalation processes; tickets to support management and other teams as required.
+ Escalate tickets to 2nd line against agreed timescales and continue to monitor these tickets to resolution.
+ Stock control of Pulsant assets and store management.
+ Manage, categorise and prioritise all 1st level tickets; these include problems, queries and requests regarding Pulsant services as well as internal support functions.
+ Assist with provisioning and project work when required including (but not exclusive to) product evaluations, development of internal and customer training material, development of new Pulsant services and improvement of support processes.

Role Info:

+ This role involves Monday to Sunday shift work, out of hours and on call duties.
+ This role may require occasional customer and company site visits.

What you'll need for the role:

+ Minimum GCSE level, or equivalent, in English.
+ Experience working as a Data Centre Support Engineer, or in a similar role.
+ Experience providing high levels of customer service in an IT or similar industry.
+ Computer hardware troubleshooting experience
+ Good knowledge and understanding of Hardware, builds / swap outs, desktops, servers, data and power cabling, rack systems etc.
+ Understanding of basic networking concepts.

Desirable:

+ CompTIA Server+ certification.
+ CompTIA A+ certification.
+ MCITP certification.
+ HND/BTEC or equivalent in IT, Computer Science or similar discipline with specific education on hardware and/or cabling modules.
+ Full UK Driving Licence.
+ ITIL Foundation Certification or working towards.
