Our award winning legal Client are now seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their growing team.

Person

  • Experienced and resilient Para Legal with particular emphasis on dispute resolution/litigation and multi-track work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and working on lengthy complex documents.
  • Ability to stay calm and composed in stressful and/or demanding situations and work under pressure to a deadline.
  • Assist the secretaries with maintenance of a busy diary (including organising appointments)
  • Liaising with clients and other professionals.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise when multiple instructions are given.
  • Good overall communication skills.
  • Essential to be flexible regarding working hours when necessary. This includes evenings and often at short notice.

Qualifications

LLB LAW degree 1st class, 2:1 or 2:2

ESSENTIAL

  • Keen willingness to learn.
  • Good understanding of fast track and multi-track cases with basic understanding of Queens Bench Division and Chancery Division Procedures.
  • Ability to brief the Head of Litigation and other senior lawyers.
  • Ability to draft case summaries.
  • Ability to draft costs summaries.
  • Basic understanding of Precedent H (Cost Forecast).
  • Ability to draft Precedent H and its Schedule of Special Assumptions.
  • Ability to follow and work on complex instruction and legal documents.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to attend meetings with senior members of staff and take precise minutes of the meeting.
  • Ability to maintain complex litigation files.
  • Ability to fill in Court Forms and other documents.
  • Basic understanding of Allocation and Directions Questionnaires.
  • Ability to prepare Trial Bundles.
  • Ability to take instructions from Client, attend meetings with sophisticated clients and maintain professionalism.
  • Basic understanding of Civil Procedure Rules is essential.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism when under litigation pressure.
  • Ability to work as part a team and communicate effectively with staff of all levels.

Purpose of the Post:

Primarily to support the Senior Litigation Fee Earner although must be able to work as part of a team.

Variations of this job description may occur during the course of the position dependant on the needs of the business.

Key Responsibilities/Key Areas:

  • To provide administrative support to the Senior Litigation Fee Earner.
  • To provide word processing support, transcribing documents from handwritten notes and digital dictation with the ability to work on lengthy complex documents.
  • Maintenance of a busy diary (including organising meetings, appointments and events).
  • To prepare bills as required.
  • To carry out other general clerical and administrative duties, including photocopying, sending faxes, scanning of documents, message taking, sorting and distributing post.
  • To maintain manual and computerised records including inputting data, keeping records, confidential and general filing systems as directed to ensure an effective record of client and financial information.
  • To assist in responding to routine correspondence and enquiries from clients, members of the public and contacts of the company.
  • To cover general reception work as required.
  • To look after guests in the office (e.g. making drinks, taking them to the correct room etc).
  • Occasionally attend court to support the Fee Earner.

General:

  • To act as an ambassador for the firm and present a professional image at all times.
  • To treat clients and colleagues fairly and with respect, value the diversity of others and work proactively to overcome communication barriers.
  • To adhere to safe working practices and to the health and safety policy and departmental procedures.
  • To be well informed about policy, procedure, organisational changes and other relevant information in order to provide up to date information to clients when needed. To ensure that such information is shared with colleagues.

  • To promote, communicate and support the companies vision and values to all.
  • To follow and promote legislation and the Practice’s policies such as race and disability, equal opportunities, health and safety and data protection to provide a consistent and excellent service.
  • The post holder may also be requested to carry out other non-specific duties commensurate with the post.

Competencies:


  • Good IT skills with a knowledge of a range of different computer packages e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
  • Well organised with the ability to work to tight timescales and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Ability to stay calm and composed in stressful and/or demanding situations and work under pressure to a deadline.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with a wide range of clients and members of staff.
  • Ability to work individually and as an effective member of a team.
  • An understanding of the need to deal with clients sensitively and to keep information confidential.
  • Ability to take on individual project work and demonstrate initiative.
  • Good keyboard skills and the ability to use a word processing package.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
  • To have a flexible approach to working hours and duties.
