Mechanical Process Engineer (Food, Pharmaceutical, Brewing)


3-6 Months

£30 - £35 per hour (D.O.E)

This well established business is at the forefront of technology and is currently going through an aggressive growth phase. They have won a number of major projects and need a Mechanical Process Engineer to help deliver an important project on time and to budget.

The successful candidate must be a competent Mechanical Process Engineer with a solid understanding of engineering principles and process pipework. The ability to work on your own initiative is also essential as you will have to work to deadlines and ensure the design is delivered on time and to the right quality.

Day to day responsibilities of a Mechanical Process Engineer will be:

  • Working on a new process project – the project has already been started.

  • Working on a brownfield site

  • Finish putting together the flow sheets.

  • Putting together the technical specifications for the tender process.

    • Function Process Designs

    • Pipework sizing

    • Pressure drops in pipework systems

    • Design Process Systems (P & ID Drawings)

  • Technical specs needed for the generators, chilled air systems and chilled water systems.

  • Involved in development of the heating and cooling process.

  • Developing P&IDs, PFD’s, process flow diagrams and pipe sizing.

  • Putting together the technical package for all the equipment including valves, pipework and pumps.

  • Liaising with the design and draughting team.

  • Occasional site meetings & conference calls.

  • Carry out HAZOP Studies

  • Specify equipment (i.e. Heat exchangers, pumps etc).

The Mechanical Process Engineer will need to have the following:

  • Understanding of a process environment (Food, Brewing, water).

  • Previous experience of process engineering.

  • Degree qualified.

  • Capable of designing a process system and producing a P&ID

  • Knowledge and selection of various pumps & valves is essential

  • Sizing of piping.

  • Knowledge of ancillary systems such as generators, chillers, heaters etc.
