Product Test Technician

Our client is a significant player in the manufacture of diagnostic tools, both portable test equipment and complex system for installation in car manufacturing plants, supplying to the automotive sector. Building upon their global reputation as market leader in North America they are constantly enhancing their product range with new developments and new product features and now have an opportunity for a Product Test Technician to support the team.

The role of Test Technician will involve testing all aspects of the TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) including new software/firmware releases, and new hardware revisions (including all elements of the system such as tool, software, PC, vehicle, sensors).


Desk based review of data streams using Excel spreadsheets

- recording data in database,

- interpret specifications for data analysis,

- identifying anomalies, trends, changes, unexpected data,

- reporting findings.

Working with hardware/software interfaces and sensing devices in test-area

- write test scripts,

- test software on bench assembly,

- generating/analysing data streams, data anomalies,

- produce test reports.

Introducing software/firmware developments to workshop area;

- problem identification,

- identifying where software developments generate unexpected or out of specification hardware response.

Contributing to Software team:

- clearly communicating findings verbally and through written reports,

- identifying issues to software team backed up through diligent investigation.

Ideally candidates will have proven ability with Excel within their degree studies (or equivalent) and in the workplace. They may have an interest in, (or limited knowledge) of some software writing although training would be given. They will be rigorous in their approach to problem solving appreciating a scientific approach to repeating tests, maintaining consistent parameters, recording results accurately.

The ability and creativity to devise their own tests between the software /firmware on the test bench will be essential. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) will be paramount to facilitating the software team with the required information.

An interest in software based diagnostic engineering tools would be good.

Role: Permanent

Location: South Yorkshire

Salary: Competitive circa £25,000 pa depending on experience
