Assistant Accountant / Management Accountant needed to assist the Group Management Accountant with the production of monthly management accounts for a successful and established group of companies in Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire. Rate of pay is negotiable depending on experience, for 25 hours per week (hours are flexible).

The Assistant Accountant / Management Accountant will ideally be part-qualified to primarily process transactional accounting entries and assist with other accounting and administrative duties as agreed with the Group Management Accountant & Group Financial Controller.

Assistant Accountant / Management Accountant Accountabilities:-

Management Accounting:

- Calculate and process journal entries including accruals, prepayments and fixed assets

- Solid understanding of the profit & loss and chart of accounts

- Carry out full reconciliations across various areas of the balance sheet on a monthly basis

- Ability to produce monthly accounts to trial balance level

- Ability to review financial reports

- Supporting all month end duties

Credit Control:

- Ensure all income due is invoiced and input onto the accounting records, including rent demands, service charges and contracting

- Ensure payment terms are met by customers and proactively chase overdue invoices

- Update monthly outstanding debts and actions report for all Group companies

Purchasing & Payments:

- Match purchase invoices to orders

- Process and code purchase invoices received onto Landmark

- Ensure supplier statements are reconciled on a monthly basis

- Process payment runs in line with agreed procedures and deadlines

Cash Flow:

- Process all bank entries and ensure all accounts are reconciled on a regular basis

- Provide the Group Management Accountant, Group Financial Controller and Directors with reports on the weekly cash position

- Assist the Group Management Accountant and Group Financial Controller with detailed three month cash forecasting on a weekly basis


- Assist with detailed analysis work across all areas of the business

- Assist with the annual budgeting process for all business units

- Assist with yearend preparation and audit process

- Work closely with Group Management Accountant to instigate process improvements throughout the business

- Assist the Financial Controller with non-financial projects such as IT and telephony

Assistant Accountant / Management Accountant key skills & knowledge:-

- Part Qualified/Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/AAT)

- Knowledge of relevant accounting standards and VAT

- Strong level of numeracy and computer literacy – specifically Excel skills such as look ups, formulae, data manipulation and formatting

- Basic understanding of accounts systems and book-keeping

- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise

- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

- A team player, who is also able to operate on own initiative
