Lead Java Developer

The Lead Java Developer will provide technical leadership within one or more multi-disciplinary delivery teams: designing solutions; solving problems; building the team and developing their skills.

The Lead Java Developer will specifically help to drive Agile and DevOps maturity within a rapidly evolving organisation. They will investigate, assess and implement new technologies to help the team identify and deliver creative solutions.

Key technologies include: Java (Spring Framework, MVC, Spring Boot, Maven); Microservices, REST and Web Services (JSON, XML, SOAP); web development, Apache Tomcat, and Oracle.


Key Responsibilities of the Lead Java Developer:
Develop strategic design and requirements, based on general guidelines (medium scale)Independently develop code and workflow procedures, owning and defending design decisionsPerform general Java application development activities, including unit testing, code deployment to development environment and technical documentation

Essential Requirements of the Lead Java Developer:
Experience of working on major programmes across a complex IT environmentExperience using the following technologies to develop business critical applications and solutions:Java, including Spring Framework, MVC, Hibernate, Spring Boot and MavenMicroservices, REST and Web Services, using JSON, XML, SOAPWeb Development, such as HTML, CSS, jQueryApache TomcatOracleExperience of the Linux command line and shell scripting languagesExperience of working on online transactional systems with high throughput and operational characteristicsExperience of Continuous Delivery and DevOps practices, familiarity of tools such as Go.CD, Jenkins, Nagios, KanbanExperience of automated testing using a suite of tools for various test classifications (e.g. unit testing, performance, security, acceptance testing)Secure coding practices - familiarity of OWASP Top 10 and PCI Security Standards

Desirable Experience of the Lead Java Developer:
Experience of Gauge, Gatling, and SpockExperience of working in an Agile software environment and applying best practices and different techniques across the software development lifecycleAtlassian tooling (JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket)JavaScript frameworks, such as AngularJS, Knockout, EmberWebSphere, or other JEE application serversSQL Server, MySQL, or similar RDBMSRIAK, MongoDB, or similar NoSQLDocker, Chef, PuppetSonarQube or similar code quality and static analysis toolsExperience of automated testingGit source code management
