Would you like to produce documentation to assist the Royal Navy operators in the day-to-day operation of submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer - Technical Author at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Senior Engineer - Technical Author, you will be working as part of a small team, responsible for producing procedural documentation across all UK submarine platforms. The documentation and manuals will cover all aspects of the boat operations, whilst the product is in build and through life.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to deploy existing documentation processes onto the new generation of submarines. You will also play a pivotal role in the transition from hard copy to computerised documentation.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Technical Author will involve:
Constructing procedural documents for all class of UK submarines, both in-service and future platforms
Producing manuals for the operation of all systems and equipment, including hotel services, weapons, and combat systems
Interpreting technical engineering information from engineering teams and key stakeholders
Liaising with stakeholders to resolve all issues and risks associated with procedural documentation
Interpreting design definitions and taking associated knowledge through the production life cycle
Presenting finished documentation to committees for approval
Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Engineer - Technical Author:
Experience on submarines or surface ships, either from operator/ maintainer background or from a test & commissioning environment
Prior experience with technical authoring

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
