Development Worker (maternity cover) £20,000 pa pro rata  This is an exciting opportunity to work for  Swindon City of Sanctuary!  Part of the National City of Sanctuary movement, Swindon City of Sanctuary seeks to promote a culture of welcome, inclusion and support for everyone in Swindon, with a focus on those seeking sanctuary. Having actively built up our organisation during our first year, our Development Worker is now taking a maternity break and we need an enthusiastic and committed individual to take forward our many active projects and continue our successful growth. This is a 25 hour/week maternity cover post with a fixed term contract for 10-12 months. You will have some experience of operational management within the charitable or voluntary sector and be able to demonstrate a commitment to our cause. You will be highly self-motivated and used to working both with volunteers and with people from diverse cultures.  You will be supported by a group of active and energetic trustees, as well as a thriving local voluntary sector network. We currently have one other part-time employee, whom you will supervise. In just one year we have already developed work across a number of areas including, for example, a Hosting Scheme (where Swindon residents offer a spare room to destitute refugees for an agreed short period of time), ‘We’re Open’ a weekly evening social event which aims to bring our community together,  a Transport Scheme in conjunction with Thamesdown buses, to help provide free travel to vulnerable and destitute asylum seekers and refugees and our annual Refugee Week, celebrating our diverse community through music, arts and drama. We have successfully bid for funding to support these projects and will be counting on your skills to bid for further funding for the plans we have to develop our work across a range of projects over the next year. You can find more information about our current projects and events on our website. This is an exciting opportunity within a varied role, to make a positive difference to our Swindon Community.  If you’d like to step in and help us grow, please read through the detailed job description and person specification click 'apply now' below to send us your CV and covering letter.  Closing date: 1st February 2018 at 12 pm
