The Senior Designer reports to both the Head of Projects and Head of Design. Due to the nature of the role, the Senior Designer will work collaboratively and effectively with the other members of the design team to generate accurate, technical and creative design solutions. The Senior Designer will support the junior members of the team and ensure they learn and develop through supportive delegation of duties.

To perform this job successfully, the Senior Designer must be able to perform each essential duty to an excellent standard and the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required.

General Responsibility

  • Take on the day-to-day running of the design process and reporting to the Head of Projects and Head of Design
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness of design intent and track design against budget and the preparation of the project’s final account
  • Develop initial concepts with clients,complete all FF+E, drawfull CAD packagesand then deliver these throughonto site and lead a team
  • Attendance site meetings with client and Head of Projects and/or Head of Design and preparation of weekly progress reports for the Head of Projects and Head of Design
  • Initiate and participate in progress meetings with the client
  • Record all meetings in minutes/status report format if necessary
  • Development and implementation of design schemes
  • Issue of electrical layouts and all other drawings
  • Co-ordination of site visits with sub-contractors
  • Sourcing and procurement of all goods (furniture, fabrics, accessories etc.)
  • Reconciliation of all invoices for projects
  • Compilation of accurate and up to date estimates
  • Providing accounts with accurate estimates for invoicing purposes
  • Co-ordination of deliveries on site
  • Snagging and de-snagging
  • Final dressing of a client’s property

Education, experience and competencies

  • Recognised qualification in interior design
  • Tangible experience at a Senior Designer level with good knowledge of running high-end residential design projects
  • A flair and passion for luxury residential FF&E design
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent CAD, Photoshop & InDesign skills
  • Excellent project management skills to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Extremely organized and able to keep on a schedule despite obstacles
  • Experience of working on a project from inception/concept design stage to completion on site
  • Able to prioritise tasks, working on several projects at once
  • Great problem-solving skills—when faced with an issue, able to evaluate all the possible solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work within a diverse and challenging work environment and able to get along with a diverse group of creative, technical and administrative professionals
  • Quick lateral and forward-thinking capabilities with the ability to stay calm and positive under pressure
  • Able to manage junior design staff with the ability to delegate and not abdicate duties and tasks
  • Excellent English with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to continuously develop skills, knowledge and behaviour to improve own level of performance
  • Experienced user of Photoshop, SketchUp, InDesign, AutoCad, Microsoft Office, Excel, EstiPC and Outlook
