This is a varied role, the main tasks in this permanent position are using a counterbalance forklift to load/unload lorries and operating a joystick controlled carrier, setting out plants. You would also learn other roles within the operation to cover breaks and holidays.

During the busy months from April to August, you would be performing your primary role, working longer hours, especially in the summer months. Across the winter months, you would perform general maintenance duties such as gardening, stacking pallets, washing the glass, digging out rails and painting.

This family-owned nursery is looking for someone with good forklift experience and skills who has the manual dexterity to learn to operate the joystick controlled plant carrier. They need someone who can work extra hours in the summer months and is happy to undertake the more physical manual work in the winter months.

As a Forklift, Horticulture Nursery Operative, your duties would include:

  • Operating a joystick controlled carrier setting down plants.
  • General forklift duties such as loading/unloading lorries.
  • Learning other roles such as the automated blocking machine.
  • Clearing up any damaged plant trays.

The idealForklift, Horticulture Nursery Operative, would have.

  • The ability to learn how to use manually driven and automated machines.
  • Excellent forklift skills and experience.
  • Experience of working in a horticultural environment.
  • The ability to undertake physical general maintenance activities.

Forklift, Horticulture Nursery Operative

In return, you would receive £9.86 per hour for a 39-hour week and £13.37 for overtime. From April/May until July/ August the working times are 7:30 am to finish, usually between 5 pm and 6:30 pm, occasionally later. During the less busy months, September to March the usual working time is 7 am till 3:30 pm. This is mainly a Monday to Friday role with only occasional Saturday mornings, usually around 5 or 6 a year during the busiest period. Initially, you would be supplied a high vis jacket and gloves but would need your own safety boots as they are supplied after a probationary period.
