Senior Trade Planning Manager


These are exciting times as we embarked on the next stage of our continued success and growth.


This role is accountable for developing the promotional strategy; planning and delivery of the Customer Trade Plan for the business including promotions, events. Make a strategic contribution to Trading and Space Planning to develop strategies that harness the current position in the market and support its future direction and contributes to the Buyers cash margin.


Based in our Northampton offices (moving to Raunds in 2019) and member of the Marketing Senior team you will be working with the management teams across Product and Marketing as well as the wider business.


Responsibilities in brief



Manage a team of 4 with 2 direct reports
Lead and facilitate the development of a rolling 18 month Customer Trade Plan and campaigns to maximise company sales whilst getting cross functional input and senior stakeholder sign off. Ensuring cross functional alignment to critical paths and prescribed timescales. Using customer insight, market share, competitor information and internal data analytics to develop a strong competitive trade driving plan to drive YOY growth.
Implement the brand strategy for own label aligned across all categories and ensure it’s supported with the Customer Trade Plan to deliver the overall business objectives for Own Label.
Work in collaboration with the category teams to monitor own brand performance against strategic business objectives. Adjust Customer Trade plan and promotions in light of competitor activity and in response to changes in the business strategies.
Lead the execution of new and innovative processes and procedures to support campaigns successfully.
Lead the facilitation of workshops with key departments to agree on promotional objectives for the year.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders along the supply chain to ensure availability of suitable stock and that promotional activities are implemented “right first time”.
Engage internal stakeholders in the development of campaigns and update and communicate effectively to required stakeholders.
Provide strategic regulatory advice on advertising and promotion materials and activities for assigned products in accordance with business goals and objectives.
Provide recommendations to the Buying and Space Planning Teams on nominations for promotions and participate in major category review launches

Personal attributes and skills



Proven success in Trade Planning ideally within a fast moving commercial environment
Extensive management experience in advertising, media, marketing and digital arenas is advantageous
Significant experience within marketing functions preferable
Proven man-management abilities with a track record in leading, motivating and developing a team
Ability to effectively communicate and influence at any level
Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly work well within a team environment
Good business acumen and commercial awareness and the ability to identify key issues and risks before they arise
Excellent organisation and planning skills with a high attention to detail
Strong risk management judgement
Able to adapt to changing situations and strong ability to remain calm under pressure
Highly self-motivated self-starter
