Our client, based in Shoreham-By-Sea, has just made available a permanent opportunity for a Product Design Engineer to join their team, offering a salary of up to £45,000 (dependant on experience), and excellent benefits.

Key Responsibilities of the Product Design Engineer

  • Design components to be incorporated in fixed and mobile installations (engine packages, material handling machines) using proven and new methods
  • Interpret customer requirements to determine most expedient and cost effective design strategy
  • Understand legal requirements and apply them in each design
  • Steer the next generation of design methodology seeking most cost effective designs
  • Work with certification and compliance engineers to ensure that designs are compliant to current legislations and liaise with regulatory authorities
  • Work with system and applications engineers to ensure that component design does not conflict with whole system architecture
  • Define test protocols to verify and qualify designs
  • Review and modify old design solutions when necessary
  • Create and modify sketches, 2D prints and 3D models as required

Qualifications and Experience required for the Product Design Engineer

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Product design background
  • Able to interpret quickly standards and regulations to meet minimum legal requirements
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: motors, shafts/bearings arrangement, rotating seals or any electromechanically assemblies preferably within machinery industry
  • Educated at degree level
  • Familiar with rigid bodies kinematics
  • Electromechanical background with proven work experience
  • Knowledge of drawing 2D/3D drawings packages


  • Knowledge of tribology principles
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis principles
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Area principles (previous experience in designing components for hazardous area industry would be highly beneficial)
  • Understanding of motor controllers principles
  • Previous experience with Autodesk Inventor
