Telecommunications Support Engineer - Coventry - Basic up to £30,951

More than a third of Great Britain’s police forces have taken a significant step towards paperless policing by equipping frontline police officers with Airwave’s specialised mobile data and applications technology A small team covering the on site maintenance, including out of hours call out, of critical Dimetra switch and TDM Ground Based Networks Resilient (GBNr) transmission infrastructure. The scheduled testing of (GBNr) and functional verification of the Cluster Hot Standby (CHS) Dimetra switches in the Airwave network. The Support of in-life upgrades, e.g Network Interworking with ESN (NI) and installation and commissioning of new or changed GBNr rings and Kilo Stream Replacement (KXR) sites, in the Airwave network.

Job Description:

The role is to provide the first line on site maintenance of Cluster Hot Standby (CHS) switch and Ground based network resilient (GBNr) transmission critical infrastructure. The role also includes routine testing of GBNr and functional verification of the (CHS) switches, and the implementation of changed or new installations of GBNr and or Kilostream replacement sites (KXR).

Technical Expertise: Academic and Technical Qualifications:

• HTEC in Telecommunications or equivalent.

• Knowledge of switching and GBN technologies.

• Proven track record working in a switch environment.

Other technical expertise, experience and knowledge:

• Knowledge of TETRA Network.

• Pro-active, self motivated.

• A disciplined and analytical approach to complex issues.

The successful candidate will need to undergo UK security vetting for this position.

This will involve:-

Completion of a security clearance questionnaire by the candidate.

Checking identity documents and employment/education/references/residency in the UK (a minimum of 5 years).

Checks against UK criminal and security records .

A credit reference check.

If considered necessary, checks against the criminal and security records of relevant foreign countries .
