Sheridan Maine is recruiting for an Accounts Assistant for a well established company located close to Dorchester.

This is a full time role offered on a temp to perm basis, hours are 7.30am to 4.30pm but there is flexibility to work later to suit you, plus free parking.

The role is to assist a small finance team in the daily purchase ledger and general accounts functions including banking. You would be required to compile accounting journals and assist in the production of monthly account closures.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

General:
  • To embrace new systems and understand basis of accounts coding
  • To understand financial basics such as vat rates, expense codes, supplier and customer issues.
  • To undertake account analysis, and respond to audit enquiry as required.
  • To be able to work in a multi company environment, and understand financial processes.
Purchase Ledger:
  • To undertake invoice scanning / input and prepare miscellaneous invoice batches.
  • To correct supplier records, as appropriate, to improve scanning success rates
  • To investigate PO or goods receipts mismatches and advice errors or supplier queries.
  • To ensure suppliers payments are prepared and approved in a timely and accurate fashion (addressing exceptions / queries).
  • To be able to answer supplier queries or take up issues with buying
  • To set up direct BACS payments, as requested.
  • To be able to reconcile supplier statements and report differences.
  • To undertake efficient filing of supplier documentation.
  • PayPal maintenance on a weekly basis.
General Accounts:
  • To prepare general journals as requested.
  • To prepare supporting accounts schedules using Excel.
  • To assist with the month end duties.
Cash Accounting:
  • To download daily bank statements, and import into Navision.
  • To post and allocate supplier payments (purchase ledger).
  • To post and allocate receipts from customers (sales ledger).
Qualifications and experience:
  • Good accounting experience
  • AAT not essential but desirable as well as a willingness to learn new things
  • Good level of Excel
  • Dynamics Navision System Knowledge an advantage or record of working with ERP systems
