2nd Line Service Engineer - IT & Audio Visual

We are seeking a 2nd Line Service Engineer, with a hands-on approach, to join an exciting tech business that specialises in delivering first-class Audio Visual (AV) and Information Communication Technology (ICT) to organisations based in the West Midlands and the South East.

Joining as the 2nd Line Service Engineer, you will work at the heart of the business ensuring clients have the best experience and service possible. This means you will interact directly with clients to fix a broad range of both IT and AV technical issues from their Birmingham HQ and on client sites. The technology they implement often underpins how clients operate on a day-to-day basis so as well as being super-responsive to issues as they arise, you'll need to be well organised and efficient in taking care of routine tasks such as health checks, backup monitoring and service renewals.

In more detail the 2nd line Service Engineer will:

  • Provide a responsive service to clients;
  • Respond to and investigate alerts;
  • Check client and datacentre backups have been successful;
  • Patch Windows and Linux servers on a monthly basis or when critical security patches are released (out of UK working hours);
  • Update clients web hosting accounts, DNS zones and processing domain and SSL renewals;
  • Liaise with clients at all organisational levels (the cleaner to the CEO) to understand new or emerging technology requirements, address and resolve problems as well as ensure client satisfaction levels are always as high as they can be;
  • Inform and educate users and key decision makers on ways to better utilise the technology and support on offer to them.

To qualify. We are looking for a 2nd Line Service Engineer / Service Desk Executive / Infrastructure Support Engineer / Desktop Support Engineer / Second Line Support Engineer / Server Maintenance / Helpdesk Support Engineer / Networking Engineer or similar, with a CV that demonstrates:

  • Datacentre / hosted services experience;
  • Virtualisation experience (Hyper-V preferred / VMware acceptable) with knowledge of Blade technology, SANs and key performance metrics;
  • Microsoft Server / domain experience;
  • Linux (CentOS) systems administration experience;
  • Layer 3 network maintenance and troubleshooting experience – routing, firewalls, switching, etc;
  • A Full UK Driving Licence;
  • The willingness to visit clients across the country– you will sometimes be required to work away from home depending on where the project is and the duration. The role requires absolute flexibility on this. This role will be based across the Midlands and South East.

It would be amazing if you also have:

  • Microsoft applications experience – Exchange, Lync, SQL, Dynamics CRM;
  • Audio-visual equipment and associated control system experience (AMX / Crestron);
  • Experience of Unified Communications (pref. Microsoft Lync) as well as understanding its meaning and impact to business ;
  • VoIP technologies – servers and handsets;
  • Experience with enterprise-grade wireless technologies.

If you think you've got what it takes, even if you don't have ALL of the skills listed (but you're a fast learner) we would love to hear from you.

Joining a team of talented, bright and highly enthusiastic people the 2nd Line Service Engineer should expect exciting ‘world projects', a competitive salary, the opportunity to work with (and play with!) the very latest technology, the chance to have an impact on the company's growth and evolution plus much much more. Get in touch.
