Engineering Design Manager – Industrial Process Automation (RP1031-TJ)

Location: Southampton, Hampshire

£45K - £60K Basic + Bonus + Pension + 25 Days Holiday + Public Holidays + Benefits

POSITION

As the Design Engineering Manager you will be responsible for:-

  • Managing and mentoring a team of Design Engineers, taking responsibility for their holiday approvals, appraisal reviews etc.
  • Managing the UK and off shore department resource, ensuring requirements for different resource levels are considered in advance.
  • Playing an active role in developing your team through personal development plans including agreeing current and future training and development needs.
  • Ensuring the Project Management team are kept up to date on progress and risks (both financial and to the schedule) including possible resolutions to the issues identified.
  • Effectively translating Project Management specifications to the design engineering team.
  • Providing technical design assessments for compliance with international standards, including value engineering.
  • Working in a team environment to prepare design information according to company procedures that will be as cost effective, functional and reliable.
  • Working within procedures, work instructions and standards to produce the design, development and manufacturing information and outputs for control systems.
  • Ensuring that where appropriate standard components are used, this requires thoroughly checking the ERP systems for existing designs and items already in stock before committing to a new design.
  • Ensuring team members complete assigned tasks effectively and efficiently giving particular attention to project hours, costs and schedule requirements.
  • Ensuring design information produced is adequately checked and approved.
  • Providing technical solutions, costings and time estimates for sales proposals.
  • Working with the management team to ensure appropriate capacity is available to meet expected project demands.
  • Ensuring projects designs are completed within business deadlines and to customer expectations.
  • PERSONThe successful candidate MUST possess proven experience managing a team of Design Engineers, ideally within the Automation industry.

    A HNC, HND or a degree within an Engineering discipline would be highly beneficial.
