Over all, the purpose is to contribute to the global retail research programme by providing insight into the latest retailer strategies and industry trends developing across Asia. To deliver customised presentations and projects to clients globally. To build strong relationships in order deepen the understanding of Asian retailing, in order to better support customers with relevant insights and implications.

You'll get the chance to work on various activities such as:

Retail Analysis - industry leading research and insight:

Lead specific Asian research streams on Retail Analysis - ownership of content plans covering leading retailers, Asian markets and grocery channels in Asia, ensuring that these fit with the broader Asia-Pacific strategy

Drive the expansion of content on Retail Analysis on an ongoing basis - daily coverage of strategic news, plus the publication of regular insight through reports, videos and webinars. Continually looking to develop, innovate and improve the delivery and design of insight, plus ensure that Asian research features strongly in global flagship reports.

Maintain and develop existing content - provide updated content for your retailers, markets and channels, including profiles, presentations, snapshots, store visits and factsheets to ensure all content is up to date and research is built on solid foundations.

Meet the research needs of customers - demonstrate clear understanding of client's research needs in the region, secure first-hand insight and ensure that all content on Retail Analysis is business critical, timely and relevant

Amongst other duties the role will also provide the opportunity to travel - effective business trips across the ASIA region:
Regular market visits across Asia - undertaking the necessary market visits across the region to build the network, generate leads and secure primary insight that enables you and the broader Asia-Pacific team to fulfil its objectives.

Networking & awareness building:
Develop a strategic network of new external contacts across Asia that will benefit research. This should particularly focus on senior and influential contacts at retailers, suppliers and trade bodies, but also include broader industry representatives, financial analysts and academics - demonstrate ownership of generating awareness building activity in conjunction with the press and marketing teams, and social media (e.g. Twitter). This includes helping to promoting at external events, plus contributing to speeches that are delivered by you and the wider team.

There are so many activities in this job that it will provide you with constant stimulation, a varied, changing & evolving role that will require the following skills / knowledge / experience:

Technical skills:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Degree level education
  • A passion for the retail industry and experience of working in the food and grocery industry
  • Ability to forecast industry trends, including identifying / commenting on the implications
  • Strong team ethos and the ability to work cross-functionally or across project teams
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to write in a clear, concise and customer friendly style

Other skills / experience… These will give you the edge over your competition for the role:

  • ASIAN business experience - ideally within retail, supplier or research/analysis
  • Knowledge of an ASIAN language
  • Excellent IT skills including strong Excel, PowerPoint & Word

A background in retail / FMCG research or provision of data services within the ASIAN retail industry will stand you in good stead for this role.

To be successful in this role you'll need strong people skills, a superb attitude to work with a naturally curious, numerate and analytical mind set
