This highly successfulconsulting firm has a market-leading advisory practice delivering professional services to a range of wholesale and retail financial institutions. Within the practice, there is a team focused on the management of risks across the trade lifecycle in trading & sales divisions of financial institutions, specialsing in processes and controls advisory and investigation work across the trading of equities, fixed income and derivative products.
The practice has been growing successfully for years and is experiencing ever-increasing demand on the back of recent financial crises and market disruptors. They need to hire a number of people to help develop their centres of excellence internally and thereby their overall service offerings.
Depending on your profile, you can fit into a range of three differing, but complimentary, areas of the market lifecycle in which this team operates:
In this part of the lifecycle, regulatory scrutiny and enforcement as well as legal risks and disputes, drive a body of client needs that focus on contentious issues, including litigation and expert witness support, and investigatory analysis. The work revolves more around forensic analysis and understanding of alleged wrongdoing, where you would bring your banking product and front to back process and control knowledge to the fore, in collaboration with forensics investigation experts.
In the area of personal accountability and reform in FICC Markets, in this part of the lifecycle you will be working with clients in to improve their processes and controls so that they are better protected against front, middle and back office risk, such as those related to FX remediation and financial benchmarks (e.g. financial benchmark manipulation).
This work is less about investigating issues in the past and more about developing a solid point of view based on experience on "what good looks like", identifying proportionate and innovative ways to enhance risk management with specific focus on wholesale banking process and controls. You will be leveraging the depth of your markets products, processes and control experience in delivering change management programmes to a variety of financial institutions, and working with team Leadership in identifying future areas of focus.
With the enhancement of control functions across the three lines of defence, increased regulation of business activities, and heightened internal and external stakeholder scrutiny, in this part of the lifecycle you will be working with clients in either the design and implementation of process and control frameworks to manage risks within the business, or in the independent third party assurance testing of the design and operational effectiveness of controls.
You will be leveraging a core assurance skillset and knowledge of front to back processes and controls at financial institutions in the design and execution of testing, and reporting to senior management, including the ability to identify recommendations for change and suggest process and control improvements.
The work across all parts of this market lifecycle is varied, beyond these cores and, depending on your experience and skillset, you can get involved in SOME of the following sorts of projects. Please note, no one would do everything and there are some very distinct disciplines, enabling you to build up considerable subject matter expertise:
· Financial instrument valuations (including analytics and modelling of vanilla and complex financial instruments across asset classes)
· IFRS/Technical Accounting
· Product design and sales distribution processes
· Board and subcommittee Governance & effectiveness
· Trading risk identification and reporting
· Financial benchmark reform
· Electronic/Algorithmic trading control
