Financial Accountant

Littlehampton, West Sussex

Package: £27,500 - 35,000 per annum, contributory pension, 22 days holiday, private healthcare and a generous discount on company products.

Our client is a fantastic employer based in Littlehampton. They are a highly successful business providing a luxury brand, offering award winning products to high-end clients and retailers both within the UK and overseas. Their offices are set in beautiful surroundings in West Sussex.

The position will involve working as part of a close-knit team, reporting to the Finance Manager, responsible for payroll & treasury.


- Managing bank accounts - ensuring cash requirements of the business are met.
- Reviewing and reconciling regular sterling and non-sterling supplier payment runs.
- Maintaining an overview of all petty cash floats held on or off site.
- Forecasting the cash flow position of the business, optimising this through prompt collection.
- Managing the foreign currency position and requirements in a cost efficient manner.
- Maintaining a system of policies and procedures that help control treasury activities.
- Carrying out statutory reporting, and all technical / administrative functions of staff benefits.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns and making payments.
- Reconciling relevant balance sheet accounts including fixed assets, debtors & creditors.
- Analysing company accounting, looking for inaccuracies and potential improvements.
- Processing all aspects of company payroll (salaries, SSP, SMP Pensions and sales commission).
- Handling personnel and pay documents for the company's staff promptly and precisely.
- Maintaining awareness of relevant regulations in relation to payroll and benefits.
- Developing periodic reports and monitoring conformity with the company's budget and policies.
- Creating efficient methods for accounting and record-keeping.
- Identifying methods for cost-reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Understanding and adhering to all financial and accounting regulations and legislation.
- Disclosing or reporting financial activities to government authorities as necessary.
- Occasionally assisting or covering for colleagues as required.

Key Skills/Experience:

- AAT level 4 or equivalent, ideally ACCA or CIMA part qualified.
- Knowledge of financial regulations and legislation in relation to Payroll, PAYE and NI.
- Familiar with VAT laws, preparation of VAT returns, experienced in processing and submitting VAT returns.
- 2 years' payroll experience in accounting or finance-related field and payroll software.
- 5 years' experience in similar role.
- Experience in reconciling balance sheet accounts.
- Experience of forecasting cash flows and managing foreign currency needs ideal.
- Experienced in bank reconciliations and management of bank account balances.
- Experience of using payroll and finance software.
- Experience of working in the cosmetics industry or other FMCG industry.
