Materials Service ManagerPortsmouth£40,000 per annumPURPOSE OF ROLETo be accountable for the Materials Service, ensuring the Materials Services` logistical team are resourcing, planning, organising and delivering material orders efficiently and effectively to meet the demands of the customer, by providing the "right materials at the right time".KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure you have the right team to meet the resourcing and logistical demands of the materials service, proactively managing the performance of the team, to successfully resource, plan, and organise the work to achieve the purpose.
  • Ensure your direct line reports and team below are being coached, developed, and trained through Personal Development Plans and regular One-to-One`s that identifies key service and personal objectives to be achieved that motivates the individual, and improves the service delivered to the customer.
  • Escalate to the Contract Manager any serious events or occurrences that need to be addressed urgently, and highlight key issues or trends that could affect service delivery performance longer term if not addressed.
  • Ensure material service performance is constantly measured and monitored by you and your team to identify trends, issues, or areas for improvement, and when needed coherent improvement plans are executed by the team and stakeholders, applying systems thinking methodology.
  • To ensure the material service delivery fleet has the right type and number of vehicles and are maintained. The vehicles should be kept clean and tidy by the drivers and have suitable equipment for delivery.
  • To be the point of contact for the client on matters regarding the materials service.
  • Work closely, and meet regularly, with Partners ensuring that continual performance is monitored.
  • Ensure the management of material quality and cost give value for money by working closely, and meeting regularly, with the Finance Business Partner to understand the performance of the service and achieve cost savings on materials and supply.
  • Escalate issues with materials and costs to the Contract Manager and Finance Business Partner when required.
  • To manage the quality of materials used ensuring compliance with Contract Core Materials list, and identify new innovative solutions, or VfM alternative materials that could be used.
  • Ensure that best value is applied to all material supply chain relationships.
  • To manage Service Level Agreements are adhered to in the best interests of the contract;
  • Spend time in the field to understand the whole logistical process end to end from an operational perspective helping to achieve "Right Materials, Right Time".
  • Update the Client on new innovative supply solutions that will benefit the repairs service long term

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (Preferred).
  • IOSH Managing Safely or similar H&S qualification.
  • Experience of procurement and sourcing of materials in the construction industry.
  • Proven experience as a Procurement Manager.
  • Able to recruit and induct staff ensuring they have a professional introduction to the company and contract.
  • Be the technical expert for materials supply, providing efficient and effective solutions where required.
  • Able to support and coach a team in the achievement of the perfect process.
  • Able to operate in a changing and evolving environment and enjoy the challenge.
  • Possess interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels in a professional manner being able to challenge and be challenged.
  • Have an organised approach to work and time management.
  • Proficient in MS Office to an intermediate level and able to use an IT system for job management understanding how it functions and interacts with other systems.
  • Able to record information in the field, identify trends and recurrent issues and put a measure in place to understand the extent of the trend or issue.
  • Proactive in identifying your development needs and doing something to overcome them.
  • Be able to self-manage and be self-motivated, prioritising work and have a desire to solve problems and eliminate waste.
