Job Title: Head of Payroll

Location: London

Salary: £80,000 plus a 15% flexible benefits package

Role Overview

The Head of Payroll is an exciting opportunity to be part of the SSCL Senior management team which leads the HR and Payroll transformation for the SSCL Police sector.

The Head of Payroll will lead, manage and develop a large payroll team responsible for delivering a large and complex payroll for circa 50,000 employees to the SSCL Police sector. You will be accountable for creating an environment which allows payroll to deliver the transformed service to the agreed standards whilst building and maintaining client relationships to create high levels of client satisfaction.

Head of Payroll Key Responsibilities:

  • To plan, schedule and manage a large and complex payroll service ensuring that business outcomes are delivered according to Scope of Service and KPIs are met for the SSCL Police sector
  • To ensure that the payroll service delivery is designed and being managed in accordance with the contractually agreed processes and procedures with regard to service definition, service level management, management reportingchange control (with both customers and suppliers)
  • To manage payroll service incidents effectively
  • To create and maintain an inclusive environment which engages, develops people and achieves SSCL’s objective of a great place to work
  • To develop and maintain effective relationships with customers, clients, colleagues, team members and suppliers which creates advocates of SSCL
  • To effectively manage issues and complaints raised by customers and clients in relation to payroll

Head of Payroll Essential Skills

  • A senior payroll manager will a proven track record of leading, managing and developing payroll teams to deliver a service to large complex organisation
  • Member of Payroll Profession / CIPP qualified
  • Experience of effectively delivering a payroll service to the required cost, quality and timelines specified in clients service agreement
  • Payroll specialist with a comprehensive understanding of regulations and proven track record of compliance
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring teams with quantifiable success growing individuals
  • Creates and maintains internal and external networks ensuring current knowledge and thinking in the areas of payroll, benefits and expenses
  • Builds and develops excellent relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Head of Payroll Desirable Skills

  • Experience of managing transformational change
  • Introduction of new service delivery models in large and complex organisations
  • Large scale movement of work between locations
  • Payroll or system migration experience
  • Oracle payroll experience
