Sage Operator / Bookkeeper - Church Charities Group

Sage 50 / Management Accounts / VAT Returns / Bank Reconciliations / Church / Charities

The company

Ancient church based in the City of London, re-designated as a Guild Church after World War 2 which has 6 charities associated with it including a Foundation which has a VAT registered Trading company attached. This manages the letting of the Church and some buildings belonging to the charity. These lettings range from services in the Church to meeting, dinners, social functions and corporate events. The Foundation also has a range of investments which are managed by a leading UK Wealth Manager.

The employers are the Trustees of the various Charities (not the Church of England), but the principal point of contact is the Church Foundation.

The role

An experienced Sage Operator and Bookkeeper is required to perform the accounting input work for the charities, produce management accounts, prepare the VAT return for the Trading Company and perform the bank reconciliations.
Most of the accounts are maintained on Sage 50, though some of the non-core charities are managed on Excel spreadsheets. Migration of all of them to Sage would be preferable so Sage experience is essential.

An improvement in the current reporting information is also desirable but this is a project that can be addressed later.

The requirements

The chief prerequisite is Sage experience, this is absolutely ESSENTIAL. Beyond that the candidate should have broad accounting / bookkeeping experience. The individual could be a more junior candidate (2 years+ experience expected) looking to gain exposure to charity accounting, or a more experienced individual looking to utilise and build on their experience. An accounting qualification is not required although some level of AAT qualification would be helpful.

No particular religious affiliation is required, though the employee will need to be in broad sympathy with the religious and charitable aims of the Church and the charities.
