At Metropolitan we have been very busy and successful in securing the opportunity to provide services to YOUR local community and we are on the hunt for some fresh talent to join our team and be instrumental in our success.

We are looking for an experienced Case Worker to join our team. You will provide advice and support with applications for Disabled Facilities Grants made by the Home Improvement Agency`s clients. You will also provide advice and support to the HIA`s clients with regard to alternative housing options, working creatively to identify appropriate housing solutions.

Additionally, you will provide advice to the HIA`s clients on income maximisation, including welfare benefits and other sources of financial assistance (including charitable trust grants and loans) which will enable the HIA`s clients to live comfortably, safely and independently in their own homes.

About the job:
-To visit clients in their homes to provide advice about disabled facilities grants and to support clients in applying for disabled facilities grant including the test of resources and proof of tenure.
-To advise clients of sources of financial help for repairs, improvements, and adaptations and assist them in obtaining appropriate funds including statutory grants, charitable trust grants and loans
-To provide advice on income maximization including advice on benefits, supporting clients with applications and advocating on their behalf.
-To provide clients with information and advice on a range of housing and support services, advocating on their behalf and referring clients to relevant agencies as appropriate, to enable them to continue to live safely and well at home.
-To provide information and advice about alternative housing options (including accessible housing stock), and to support clients in making applications, including providing advocacy and support and obtaining any necessary supporting documentation to ensure that their reasonable preferences are met as far as is possible
-To keep clients and their carers informed throughout the Disabled Facilities Grant application process, liaising with the HIA`s own staff and external agencies (including landlords, contractors and other relevant agencies) ensuring as far as is practicable that the client`s own wishes and preferences are taken into account
-To keep accurate client records and to provide reports as required on progress with the post holder`s case load
-To assist in developing and maintaining a comprehensive accurate and up to date information resource of other housing and support agencies, accommodation providers and sources of support which will enable the HIA`s clients to continue to live independently and well in a home of their choice, working collaboratively with HIA staff, other Metropolitan services and external agencies
-To participate in periodic events to promote the HIA`s services to relevant agencies and to participate in Metropolitan and external working groups as appropriate, sharing expertise to ensure the HIA continues to develop high quality services reflecting best practice.

About you:
-Comprehensive knowledge of welfare benefits, particularly disability related benefits, benefits for older people and benefits for carers
-Significant experience of providing a case work service for older and/or disabled people gained in a housing, social care or voluntary sector agency.
-Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the housing issues faced by disabled people.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and able to build effective and supportive relationships with clients, their carers and families
-Demonstrable ability to think creatively, identifying and follow through person-centred solutions to meet clients` needs.
-Able to use own initiative to ensure safe and reliable service delivery and an ability to prioritise your own workload and manage time effectively, working without close supervision
-Due to the nature of this post, an enhanced DBS check will be undertaken for the successful applicant, but only with their prior consent
-Ability to travel to carry out home visits including using your own vehicle, bicycle or public transport
-Thorough knowledge and understanding of disabled facilities grants and their role in enabling disabled people to live independently in their own homes
-Practical working experience of using Foundations` Case Manager client recording system (Desirable)
-Practical working experience of Ferret`s software in calculating the test of resources for disabled facilities grants (Desirable)
