Role: Software Engineer

"Design and implementation of software and control systems"

Location: Commutable from Horsham, Brighton, Crawley, Redhill, East Grinstead, Croydon and surrounding areas

Salary: £44,000 - £51,000 per annum + Pension + Life Assurance + Private Healthcare + 33 Days holiday (including Bank holidays)

Responsibilities

Design and implementation of software and control systems:

  • Specify the function of software and control to meet our needs and its customers.
  • Implement software according to specification, working within industry standard best practices especially with revision control.
  • Exhaustively test all new software releases and control schemes prior to deployment, testing in a logical manner and documenting findings.
  • Maintain and extend the Remote Monitoring Platform.
  • Ensure software functionality is well documented and software test procedures and results are recorded.
  • Develop and build equipment to ease the process of test.

Provide support and resolving technical issues:

  • Assist in the software aspects of routine issuing and sign off on production jobs.
  • Provide technical content for manuals and documentation.
  • Provide training and support to the Service and Test departments on aspects related to software systems.
  • Resolve software problems reported by Service or Test, provide timely solutions and work to prevent unexpected scenarios. This may require worldwide visits to site as necessary.
  • Assist service with the commissioning of more complex systems on site.
  • Liaise with customers to clarify requirements and supply expertise to them for the purposes of software integration with their machines. This may be via email, telephone or visits to customer sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum degree qualified in a relevant discipline, such as Software OR Computer Science OR Electronics
  • Embedded software development for ARM and PIC platforms in C
  • Experience with .NET languages for Windows (with emphasis on Vb.NET & C#)
  • Able to read electronics schematic diagrams
  • Understanding of CANOpen control systems would be advantageous
  • An understanding of change control tools (AutoCAD Vault/SVN) would be advantageous
  • Practical approach to design and design for test
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment & under pressure
  • Must speak clear fluent technical English
  • Must be free to travel worldwide with no restrictions
