PR & Partnerships Manager

We currently have an exciting role for a full time experienced PR & Partnership Manager within our Marketing Team. This role is a 12 month maternity cover based in our head office in Farnborough, Hampshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving Explore’s strategic PR and Partnership objectives, in accordance with business priorities. Using all forms of media and communication, the role will be responsible for managing the reputation and growing external awareness of the brand by communicating key messages and driving PR campaigns to achieve media cut through. It will also be responsible for negotiating partnerships with third party brands to increase reach and grow our customer database.

We have over 500 small group trips in 120 countries (including Family Adventures, Cycling & Walking), plus tailormade and self-guided programmes; so a product range that is second to none in the industry.

Explore has been a part of the Hotelplan UK group of specialist travel companies since December 2015. We operate as a totally standalone business, but also work closely with our sister companies wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of all PR activity, working with the Head of Marketing, PR Executive and other members of the marketing team whilst liaising with other key personnel around the business.

  • Manage the PR & Partnerships plan and budget for Explore to ensure activity is delivered on time and on budget

  • Build strategic relationships with new and existing partners to increase brand awareness, grow our customer database and drive new business

  • Manage and deliver an annual media event, launching new news to the press and securing high profile coverage

  • Work with the marketing team and external agencies to deliver 'big bang’ PR campaigns at key times of year

  • To prepare newsworthy press releases and weekly 'snippets’, working closely with Product to ensure that the high level of expertise within the team is brought to the fore, and key product messages and 'Explore twists’ identified and communicated effectively

  • To build strong relationships with key consumer and trade journalists to ensure opportunities for media coverage are maximised and exploited.

  • Provide timely, accurate, positive copy to the media, both on a pro-active and reactive basis using media database and other online services.

  • Collate and analyse media coverage and activity, comparing exposure against the market, reporting weekly/monthly PR KPI’s & management information in line with business needs

  • Develop the online press centre and keep it updated on a regular basis, ensuring all releases are posted, news items relevant, images fresh etc.

  • To liaise with key travel associations, tourist boards, airlines, tour leaders and overseas agents to negotiate contributions to marketing activity and press trips

  • To help create a perfect loop of internal communications, ensuring everyone within the business is aware of key messages and relevant media coverage. To collect and collate feedback, ideas and responses from HQ and external staff (tour leaders etc.) and use internal PR to help support the One Team ethos

  • Organise and support events, sponsorships, competitions and other related promotions

  • To assist, support and act as the key media contact in times of an issue/crisis. To draft media statements, monitor and disseminate information

  • To manage Explore’s press trip programme, ensuring that effective and sizeable features appear in key target media, in accordance with business priorities

  • Work closely with the Marketing, BI & Product teams to ensure press trips and PR activity are integrated with the wider business priorities and commercially focused

  • To be proactive in sourcing and managing 'speaking and sponsorship’ opportunities for key Explore personnel, providing support and resource to ensure we maximise our exposure.

  • Writing and editing in-house communications, case studies, speeches, articles and 'Award’ applications using latest technology to deliver 'fresh and appealing’ content each time.

Skills & Experience - Essential

  • Previous experience in a similar PR role/environment with excellent understanding of the media landscape

  • Proven media contacts - particularly in the consumer and travel media arena

  • An organised approach to work, with good prioritisation skills

  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills and grasp of the English language

  • Experience negotiating commercial partnerships & contracts

  • Have strong communication skills (both written and orally) with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels.

  • Experience in crisis and issue management - dealing with negative situations and the ability to brief senior management where appropriate

  • An independent thinker, but a team player who has experience in working to tight deadline and under pressure

  • Commercially minded, with strong planning and budget management skills

  • Experience briefing and working with external agencies

  • Creative and able to develop newsworthy ideas for press releases or campaigns

  • Experienced line manager, with the ability to mentor, coach and develop a direct report

Person Specification

  • Self-driven and comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a team. Needs to be positive, proactive, creative and willing to go the extra mile to secure a deal. Will have an innate interest in the world, other cultures and current affairs.

  • An ability to build a strong rapport and communicate effectively at all levels and to construct logical, credible and winning arguments that will persuade others. Must be able to confidently pick up the phone and talk to people.

Education

Higher education is desirable.
