IT Programme Manager - Software & Infrastructure Projects - Famous London Institution

A well-known London institution/venue is looking to hire an IT Programme Manager. In this role you will be:

  • Managing the team. Currently a team of 3 consisting of project managers and change managers
  • This is a hands-on role where you will be managing the projects yourself as well as your team

Your projects team sits within an overall IT team of around 25 people that support a total user base of 1300 across the world-famous institution! The IT Manager is looking for you to be autonomous and take ownership of your domain. You will not be micro-managed in this role.

There are a multitude of projects taking place currently from IT security, new CRM (Dynamics), new online management / cataloguing software, IT storage etc. Your projects will be varied and diverse and you must be prepared to take responsibility of project management yourself as well as instructing your team.

Main tasks:

  • Lead the IT project function & Change team
  • Programme manage the IT project portfolio Including project budget and delivery
  • Support the Head of IT in developing their IT-enabled strategies
  • Work with Business stakeholders to agree a technology roadmap
  • Develop and maintain an effective relationship between IT and the institution, building a strong affiliation with senior stakeholders
  • Act as the single point of contact for Business stakeholders to discuss new requirements requiring IT input, engaging the Change Managers to document and impact the requirements and to deliver Business requirements as appropriate
  • Line Manage internal and contract project managers
  • Line Manage the Change Manager and have oversight of all change relevant processes and policies
  • Engage with the Change Manager to understand the status of in-flight changes and change requests
  • Understand and comply with the IT organisation requirements, processes, procedures and policies
  • Oversight of IT Governance, develop IT relevant policies, processes and standards that apply to the IT Department as well as the institution
  • Provide others with constructive unambiguous feedback in order to improve performance
  • Take appropriate action when individuals fail to meet expected behavioural or performance standards
  • Undertake knowledge management activities: identifying, controlling and storing any pertinent information, and maintaining knowledge items to ensure that they are current, relevant and valid
  • Be security conscious, ensure familiarity and co-operation with all security procedures
  • Carry out ad hoc duties as requested by appropriate managers within your department
  • Demonstrable experience in Programme Management
  • Methodologies and tools such as PRINCE II, PMP, Agile, Microsoft Project etc. and qualification in at least one
  • Experience in managing several projects simultaneously
  • Business analytical and process re-engineering skills
  • Ability to manage system integration projects and complete them successfully on time and on budget
  • Strong financial management experience with project budgets in excess of £1m
  • Extensive knowledge of Business Support applications, systems and infrastructure
  • ITIL foundation qualification
  • Knowledge of IT Service Management
  • Basic knowledge in Information Security and BCP
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and within constraints
  • Experience of people management

Essential requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience in Programme Management
