To aid in the day-to-day financial function of the school and additionally manage the administration team and caretaker

Finance and Accounting

  • Prepare the school's annual budget
  • Maintain a strategic financial plan that indicates trends and requirements of the school development plan

  • Maintain all the schools financial accounts on FMS

  • Ensure accurate VAT accounting and payment, and that VAT reclaim returns are submitted on a monthly basis

  • Process all orders for goods & services on FMS and obtain approval.

  • Review invoices when received, checking that goods & services have been received and costs in line with order

  • Process weekly bank reconciliations

  • Process monthly payroll journals and ensure all cash book items have been processed

  • Identify significant variances to budget, outlining reasons and options available for corrective action.

  • Maintain and oversee all bank accounts including the school's credit card/s and report banking errors

  • Maintain all school insurances in all forms including assessments, claims and administration.

  • Pursue grant income and sponsorship generation opportunities including the preparation and submission of applications and bids.

  • Be conversant with the general principle of taxation applicable to the school and the financial implications of charitable status.

HR & Payroll Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the whole recruitment process, within a school this includes barring checks, and contracts of employments.

  • Ensure that all the necessary financial data required for payroll, the Teachers' Pension and Local Government Pension agencies is submitted for starters, leavers and changes for existing staff.

  • Responsible for the completion of the school's payroll, ensuring all forms including timesheets, new starters, leavers, variation forms and annual returns are submitted within required deadlines to external payroll bureau.

  • Ensure all relevant assessments & annual returns are completed in relation to HMRC requirements.

  • Maintain salary & employment spreadsheet and ensure it agrees back to SIMS

Management & Administration

  • Manage the caretaker to ensure the school buildings are safe and well maintained.

  • Manage and develop effective maintenance systems, to ensure the efficient operation of all facilities on the premises.

  • Collate weekly newsletter - type print & email to parents.

  • Responsible for maintaining an effective database to include information on pupils, staff and financial matters.


Ideally you will have worked in a school and managed their finances

Ideally Part Qualified or QBE or equivalent

Experience of using computerised accountancy software

Excellent planning and organisational skills to include time management

High level of interpersonal skills

Job Offer

Pays Circa Pay Point 5 £25,152 - £27,319 pro rata (this is a term time only role)
